Transferring licences from a licence server to another computer

You use the Transfer tab of the Asta Licence Manager to loan or move licences from a licence server to other computers. You can loan or move licences to computers on the same network as the licence server, or to computers that are not connected to the network.

You may want to loan a licence from a licence server to another computer in order to provide the computer with a licence for use over a temporary period - anything up to a year. For example, if a user is intending to work on a project from home over the weekend and will not be able to access a licence server, you can loan them a licence for two days. At the end of the loan period, the licence is transferred back to the licence server automatically. Note that you cannot loan some types of licence.

You may want to move licences from a licence server to another computer if you are using multiple licence servers and you want to transfer licences from one to another, if you are discontinuing use of a licence server and you want to move all licences away from it, or if you want to transfer a licence permanently onto a computer such as a laptop, which will not always be able to access a licence server in order to obtain a licence. Note that you can only use Asta Licence Manager to move network licences; if you also have a number of standalone licences and you want to move these from one computer to another, you do this using the client application itself.

If a licence server has been installed onto a virtual machine, the following restrictions apply:
