Cancelling licence loans
You can cancel licence loans that you have made to other computers.
Cancelling a licence loan returns the licence to the licence server prior
to the original expiry date of the loan.
In order to cancel a licence loan, the computer to which the licence
was loaned must be connected to the network. If the computer is not connected
to the network at the present time but will be at some future point, you
can specify that Asta Licence Manager should keep trying to cancel the
licence loan at regular intervals (the interval being defined on the Options tab) until the cancellation
is successful.
To cancel a licence loan:
- Click the Totals
tab of the Asta Licence Manager. Any licences that have been loaned
to other computers are listed in the Loaned
licences grid.
- Select the row in the Loaned
licences grid that represents the licence loan that you want
to cancel, then right-click it and select Cancel
Loan.
If it is possible to identify the computer to which the licence was
loaned and that computer is currently connected to the network, the
licence loan is cancelled immediately and the licence is returned
to the licence server. Note that if the loaned licence is currently
in use, you are given the option to cancel the licence loan immediately,
which forces the user of the licence to save and close their work
immediately, or to abandon the licence loan cancellation, which enables
the user to continue working.
If it is not possible to identify the computer - this may happen if
a number of your computers have similar names comprising ten or more
characters - or if the computer is not currently connected to the
network, the Specify Loaned Licence
Location dialog appears.
- Enter the name of the computer to which the licence
was loaned in the field on the dialog and click OK
to reattempt the loan cancellation; if the computer is not currently
connected to the network, select the Automatically
attempt cancellation until successful... check box to specify
that Asta Licence Manager should keep trying to cancel the licence
loan at regular intervals until the cancellation is successful before
clicking OK. Note that clicking
Cancel on this dialog will
cancel the entire licence loan cancellation attempt.
If you specify that Asta Licence Manager should keep trying to cancel
a licence loan, the licence loan cancellation becomes known as 'pending'.
Asta Licence Manager attempts repeatedly to carry out each pending cancellation
at the interval specified on the Options
tab, and continues to do so until the cancellation is successful, or until
a week has passed - whichever is sooner. You can view the status of pending
licence loan cancellations in the Cancellation
Status column in the Loaned licences
grid on the Totals tab. You can
also use this grid to abandon pending licence loan cancellations and to
reattempt them immediately - which you may want to do if you know that
the computer to which the licence was loaned is currently connected to
the network.
To abandon a pending licence loan cancellation:
- Click the Totals
tab of the Asta Licence Manager.
- Select the row in the Loaned
licences grid that represents the pending licence loan cancellation
that you want to abandon, then right-click it and select Abandon
Pending Cancellation.
To reattempt a pending licence loan cancellation:
- Click the Totals
tab of the Asta Licence Manager.
- Right-click the row in the Loaned
licences grid that represents the pending licence loan cancellation
that you want to reattempt immediately and select Retry
Pending Cancellation.
