The Asta Connect workflow
You can use Asta Connect as you work through all five phases of the Last Planner© System.
Master schedules are known as 'projects' in Asta Connect.
You can either:
- Create your master schedule from scratch in Asta Connect.
- Create a master schedule in another project management application such as Asta Powerproject or Microsoft Project, then import it into Asta Connect.
Once you have created or imported a master schedule, you can view it as a filterable and scalable spreadsheet and bar chart.
You create phase schedules - known as 'pull plans' in Asta Connect. Each project can have multiple pull plans, with each pull plan relating to one or more tasks. You might find it useful to create a pull plan for each summary task in a project.
You build up detail in a pull plan by creating tasks that represent the detailed activities that need to be carried out. You can create a flat list of tasks, or use the Asta Connect whiteboard to create tasks and identify the links between them.
During 'make work ready planning' meetings, you can:
- Use the Gantt chart view to review the tasks that are to be carried out in the next four to six weeks.
- Use the whiteboard to manage and rearrange tasks as necessary, and to break down insufficiently detailed tasks into suitably detailed tasks that enable weekly and daily planning.
- Create tasks to represent any constraints that are identified, and assign these to the people who are responsible for dealing with the issues.
During weekly check-ins, you can use the whiteboard to review the tasks that are to be carried out in the coming week, and manage and rearrange tasks as necessary.
During daily coordination meetings, you can use the whiteboard to review the tasks that have been carried out during the day, and manage and rearrange tasks as necessary. You can use the project performance dashboard to track the current status and performance of your projects.
