Creating a view
The steps involved in creating a new view differ slightly depending on whether you are creating a bar chart view or a calendar view.

To create a new bar chart view:
- On the View tab, in the Views group, click New. The Details tab of the View Properties dialog is displayed.
- Type a name for the view in the Name field.
- If you want to assign a category to the view, select a view category in the Category field. Categorising views makes it easier to find the view you are looking for, for example when selecting a view to apply to the current project. Whenever you select a view, they are arranged into their categories, with any views that do not belong to a category being displayed below the view categories that do exist.
- From the Table fields, select the spreadsheet layout that you want to use for bar charts using this view, for RBS and CBS views and when the view is displayed in 'predecessors & successors' and 'jagged progress' modes. All the tables in the project are available in these lists.
- From the Filter field, select the filter that you want to apply to this view. All the filters in the project are available in this list.
- From the Sort/Group field, choose the sort/group that you want to apply to this view. All the sorts/groups in the project are available in this list.
- In the Default print profile field, select the print profile to use by default for printing when this view is the current view.
You do not need to specify table, filter, sort/group and print profile options; you can apply them to the view later. - Select the Project view check box if you want this to be a project view, or clear the check box if you want it to be a user view. This check box is greyed out if you do not have access rights to create project views, as you can only create user views.
- Select the Display on menu check box if you want to display the view on the View dropdown in the Views group on the View tab, or clear the check box if you want it to be available only via the More Views dialog.
- Select the Lock view settings check box to prevent any changes that you or other users make to the view from being saved, or clear the check box to enable users to save changes to the view.
- If you are creating a user view, select the Visible to all users check box if you want this view to be available to all other users, or clear the check box if you want the view to be available to yourself only. Project views are available to all users automatically.
- Select the Use view scales check box to apply the date zone scale to all charts within the view, or clear the check box to enable you to choose a different scale for each chart within the view. With the check box selected, if you change the date zone scale within one chart, the scale is applied to all charts; with it cleared, if you change the scale within one chart, the scale is only applied to that chart (and its subcharts, unless you subsequently change the scale within them).
- Select the Available in Project Viewer check box if you want to make this view available when users open this project in Elecosoft's free project viewing software - Project Viewer - or clear the check box to hide the view from users when the project is opened in Project Viewer. Clearing this check box is a simple way of hiding views that contain sensitive information - for example, cost information - from users of Project Viewer.
- Click the Misc tab. You can use this tab to enter additional information relating to the view if required, although all of the information is optional.
- Enter the name of the person that has created the view in the Drawn by field.
- Enter the name of the person with responsibility for managing the view in the Manager field.
- Enter any comments relating to the view in the Comment field.
- Enter the programme number that relates to the view in the Programme no. field.
- Enter the current revision number of the view in the Revision number field.
- Enter any comment relating to the current revision of the view in the Revision comment field.
- Enter the date on which the view was created in the Issue date field.
- Enter the date on which this revision of the view was created in the Revision date field.
- Close the View Properties dialog to create the new view.
A new tab or window opens with the new view's name displayed in the title of the tab or window. Any changes you make to the view are saved in the current view. The subheading and folding calendars in the new view are automatically set to be your current task default calendar, as specified on the Task tab of the Bar Chart Defaults Properties dialog, and weekends are automatically folded out of view.

To create a new calendar view:
- On the View tab, in the Views group, click the New dropdown and select Calendar view. The Calendar View Details tab of the Calendar View Properties dialog is displayed.
- From the Filter field, select the filter that you want to apply to this view. All the filters in the project are available in this list.
- In the Default print profile field, select the print profile to use by default for printing when this view is the current view.

- Enter any comment relating to the current revision of the view in the Revision comment field.
- Enter the date on which the view was created in the Issue date field.
- Enter the date on which this revision of the view was created in the Revision date field.
- Close the Calendar View Properties dialog to create the new view.
