Categorising views
You can use view categories to classify the views in your project. You create view categories in Library Explorer. You can create as many view categories as you like, then place individual views into appropriate categories.
Categorising views in this way makes it easier to find the view you are looking for, for example when selecting a view to apply to the current project. Whenever you select a view, they are arranged into their categories, with any views that do not belong to a category being displayed below the view categories that do exist.
You can also use view categories to apply a different tab colour to one or more specific views, overriding the project's default tab colour.
To create a new view category:
- Open Library Explorer.
- Open the View Category library. All existing view categories appear in the list view.
- Right-click a blank area of the list view and select New View Category. A new view category appears in the list, with the cursor flashing in the Name column.
- Enter a name for the view category and press Enter.
- Right-click the view category and select Properties. The View Category Properties dialog appears.
- If you want to apply a different tab colour to the views to which this category is assigned, overriding the project's default tab colour, specify a colour to apply to the tabs in the Tab colour field.
To prevent the view category's tab colour from overriding the default project tab colour, select 'None' in this field. - Click Close.
- Close Library Explorer.
You can now assign the category that you have created to views within the project. To assign a category to a view:
- On the View tab, in the Views group, click the View dropdown and select More Views. The More Views dialog appears.
- If the view that you want to place within the category is currently within a different view category, select the view category that is currently assigned to the view in the Category field.
- Select the view to which you want to assign the category and click Properties. The Details tab of the View Properties dialog - or the Calendar View Details tab of the Calendar View Properties dialog, if you have selected a calendar view - is displayed.
- Select the view category that you want to assign to the view in the Category field.
- Click OK.
If you no longer require a view category in a project, you can delete it in Library Explorer. Note that before you can delete a view category you must first assign a different category to any views to which the category that you want to delete is currently assigned.
