Exporting and printing a project timeline

A project timeline can be a useful way of presenting an overview of a project. You may want to share the project timeline with others - for example, you may want to incorporate it into a Word document or a Powerpoint presentation, or to email it to someone.

There are two ways of sharing a project timeline: you can export it to the Windows Clipboard, from where you can paste it into another application, and you can print it.

To export a copy of the project timeline to the Windows Clipboard:

  1. If the timeline pane is not currently displayed, on the View tab, in the Show group, click Timeline to display it.
  2. Click in the timeline pane.
  3. On the Format tab, in the Export group, click the Export Timeline dropdown and select Clipboard.

You can now paste the copy of the timeline into another application - for example, a Word document, a Powerpoint presentation or an email.

To print the project timeline:

  1. If the timeline pane is not currently displayed, on the View tab, in the Show group, click Timeline to display it.
  2. Click in the timeline pane.
  3. On the Format tab, in the Export group, click the Export Timeline dropdown and select Print Timeline. The Print dialog appears.
  4. Use the fields on the dialog to select a printer and to specify how you want to print the timeline, then click Print.

You can also access the timeline export commands by right-clicking the project timeline and selecting Export Timeline.
