Working with users
The Users page displays a list of the users that have been created in Asta Connect.
To access the Users page, click the Administration dropdown in the left pane, then click Users.
You should create a user record for each individual that is to access Asta Connect. Each user should be assigned one or more user roles, which define the access rights of the users to which the roles are assigned.
You can use project teams to organise your users into logical teams. For example, you could group all users who are plumbers into a 'Plumbers' team, and all users who are bricklayers into a 'Bricklayers' team. When using a whiteboard to manage pull plans, you can create a swimlane for each project team that needs to work on a project, then move the tasks on the whiteboard into the appropriate swimlane to group tasks by project team.
There are four types of Asta Connect user. All user types use Asta Connect in the same way; the only differences between them are the way that their user records are created in Asta Connect, and the way that they sign into Asta Connect.
The type of users you have in Asta Connect depends on whether or not you use the Elecosoft Identity Service (EIS), which enables users to sign into Asta Connect and other Elecosoft applications using the same user name and password; and whether or not you enable users to sign into applications using their Microsoft Entra ID credentials.
The following table describes the different types of user:
User type | Description | Uses Elecosoft Identity Service? | Enables sign-in using Microsoft Entra ID credentials? |
---|---|---|---|
Non-Elecosoft Identity Service (EIS) user |
If your organisation does not use the Elecosoft Identity Service to enable users to sign into Asta Connect and other Elecosoft applications using the same user name and password, all your users will be of this type. The sign in credentials they enter will enable them to sign into Asta Connect only.
When you create a user of this type, you specify their password in Asta Connect. |
N | N |
Non-federated user |
If your organisation uses the Elecosoft Identity Service to enable users to sign into Asta Connect and other Elecosoft applications using the same user name and password, but does not enable users to sign into applications using their Microsoft Entra ID credentials, your users will be of this type.
You may also need to set up one or more proxy users - as directed by Elecosoft - to enable people from outside your organisation, such as Elecosoft employees, to access your data in Asta Connect. |

Federated user |
If your organisation uses the Elecosoft Identity Service to enable users to sign into Asta Connect and other Elecosoft applications using their Microsoft Entra ID credentials, your users will be of this type.
You may also need to set up one or more proxy users - as directed by Elecosoft - to enable people from outside your organisation, such as Elecosoft employees, to access your data in Asta Connect. |

Proxy user |
Proxy users are not standard Asta Connect users; they are users who are able to sign into Asta Connect and view multiple customers' data. If your organisation uses the Elecosoft Identity Service to enable users to sign into Asta Connect, you may need to set up one or more proxy users, as directed by Elecosoft.
An example of a proxy user would be a member of Elecosoft's Technical Support department, who may need to sign into multiple customers' versions of Asta Connect to assist them with issues. |

For each user, the following information is displayed:
- User Name: the user name with which the user can sign into Asta Connect.
- Name: the user's first name.
- Surname: the user's surname.
- Roles: any user roles that have been assigned to the user.
- Email address: the user's email address.
- Active: whether the user is an active - ie 'current' - user of Asta Connect.
- Elecosoft Identity Service: whether the user uses the Elecosoft Identity Service to sign into to Asta Connect.
- Last Login: the date and time that the user last attempted to sign into Asta Connect.
- Last Login Result: whether the user's last sign in was successful and, if it was not, the reason why not. Elecosoft is able to track successful sign ins from all user types, but can only track unsuccessful sign in attempts from Non-Elecosoft Identity Service users.
- Creation Time: when the user was created.
Depending on your access rights, you may not be able to carry out all of the actions described below.
