Permanent Allocation Properties dialog - Details tab
You use the Details tab of the Permanent Allocation Properties dialog to view and maintain general details of the selected permanent resource allocation. You can apply a delay to the allocation, specify the calendar to be used by the allocation, exclude the allocation from any project calculations, allow the allocation to be shorter than the task and specify whether the allocation uses working or elapsed time. You can also access dialogs in which you can edit the properties of the permanent resource and the bar and task to which it is assigned, and specify a priority for the allocation.

To access the Permanent Allocation Properties dialog, right-click a permanent resource allocation and select Properties.

Field/Button | Description |
---|---|
Allocation of | The name of the permanent resource that has been allocated. Click Properties to view and edit the details of the permanent resource. |
Allocated to | The name of the task to which the permanent resource has been allocated. Click Properties to view and edit the details of the task. |
Allocation |
Enter the number of resources that you are allocating to the task.
This field is a duplicate of the Allocation field on the Modelling tab of the dialog. It appears on this tab as well to enable you to specify the allocation of the resource when the Modelling tab is not displayed on the dialog. |
Start | The date and time on which the allocation starts. |
Finish | The date and time on which the allocation finishes. |
Calculated duration | The time taken by the allocation. |
Delay | Specify any delay to apply to the allocation. For example, you may not want resources to start work until 2 days after the start of the task. |
Use task calendar |
Select this check box to specify that the allocation should use the calendar of the task to which it is assigned, or clear the check box to apply the resources' calendar to the allocation.
|
Unschedulable |
This check box is selected if the allocation is incapable of being rescheduled for any reason. This can be caused by calendar conflicts, or by the task to which the resource is allocated being part of a link loop.
|
Ignore | Select this check box to specify that the allocation should be excluded from any project calculations. Ignored allocations do not set the start and finish dates or duration of the task to which they are assigned, and are excluded from roll-up values and histograms. |
Share effort |
Resource allocations that use the Effort on Allocation modelling method for which Duration is the calculated parameter can share effort with other similar resources at the point at which they are assigned to the task.
Select this check box to make this allocation share effort with any subsequent allocations of other similar resources, or clear the check box to make the allocation work independently to any other allocations on the task. This check box only has an effect on Effort on Allocation modelled allocations for which Duration is the calculated parameter.
Specifying where to display milestones in bars with overlapping tasks |
May be shorter than task |
By default, a task cannot be longer than its resource allocations, so you cannot allocate resources to a portion of a task and leave the rest of the task unallocated. You can change this default behaviour for each allocation if you want.
Select this check box to allow this allocation to be shorter than the task, enabling you to leave a portion of the task unallocated, or clear the check box to associate the allocation with the task finish date.
If you attempt to clear this check box for a resource allocation and this would cause the task finish date to change, your edit will fail unless you also have 'Modify' access rights over tasks.
|
Contributes to activity effort |
Resource allocations that use the Effort on Allocation modelling method can contribute to the effort activity budget of tasks that also have Effort Activity Budget modelled allocations. You may want to do this to reduce the effort activity budget of a task by the amount of an Effort on Allocation modelled allocation, thus affecting the effort activity budgets of the Effort Activity Budget modelled allocations.
Select the Contributes to activity effort check box to make this allocation contribute to the effort activity budget, or clear the check box to make the allocation work independently of the effort activity budget on the task. This check box only has an effect on Effort on Allocation modelled permanent resources.
|
Elapsed | Select this check box to specify that the allocation should be calculated according to elapsed time, rather than according to working time as defined by either the resource's or the task's calendar. For example, a security guard might work 12 hours irrespective of the working periods in his calendar. |
Lead resource |
As an alternative to colouring tasks according to the codes that are assigned to them, you can configure Asta Powerproject to colour them with the appearance of the lead resource that is assigned to them.
Select this check box to specify that the resource allocation should be considered the lead resource for the corresponding task. If you select this check box, the corresponding task will be displayed with the same appearance that is defined against this allocation's resource, if you choose to colour tasks according to the appearance of their lead resource. Note that you should mark only one resource or cost centre allocation against each task as being the lead resource.
|
Combine work rate |
Select this check box to combine the work rate of this allocation with the work rates of one or more other 'Work From Task' modelled allocations. This is useful if you have two allocations of the same resource working together to complete a task. For example, you might have two roofers working together to tile a roof.
If you select this check box for two or more permanent resource allocations on a task, their work rates are combined for the purposes of resource modelling, provided that the allocations:
If you clear this check box, the work rate of this allocation is never combined with that of other allocations and the resource is considered to be working on its own.

Priority |
Select the priority of the allocation, for example None, Low, Medium or High.
|
Zero duration appearance | Select the shape to apply to the resource allocation when it is a milestone, indicating that the allocation occurs at a single point in time. |
Demand/Scheduled | For demand allocations, click this button to view details of the scheduled allocations that satisfy the demand allocation and the demand allocations to or from which the demand allocation has been devolved. For scheduled allocations, click this button to view details of the demand allocation that is satisfied by the scheduled allocation. |
Levelling | Click this button to view and maintain details of the way in which resource levelling can affect the permanent resource allocation. |
How do I...

Enter the number of resources allocated in the Allocation field.

Specify any delay to apply to the allocation in the Delay field.

Select the Use task calendar check box to specify that the allocation should use the calendar of the task to which it is assigned, or clear the check box to apply the resources' calendar to the allocation.

Select the Ignore check box to exclude the allocation from calculations such as task start and finish dates and durations, roll-up values and histograms, or clear the check box to re-include it.

Select the Share effort check box to make this allocation share effort with any subsequent allocations of other similar resources, or clear the check box to make the allocation work independently to any other allocations on the task. This check box only has an effect on Effort on Allocation modelled allocations for which Duration is the calculated parameter.

Select the May be shorter than task check box to allow the allocation to be shorter than the task, leaving part of the task unallocated, or clear the check box to force the allocation to set the finish date of the task.

Select the Contributes to activity effort check box to make this allocation contribute to the effort activity budget, or clear the check box to make the allocation work independently of the effort activity budget on the task. This check box only has an effect on Effort on Allocation modelled permanent resources.

Select the Elapsed check box to specify that the resource works during working and non-working time, or clear the check box to specify that the resource works during working time only.

Select the Lead resource check box to specify that the allocation should be considered the lead resource for corresponding task for the purposes of setting task appearance, or clear the check box to specify that this allocation should not be considered the lead resource.

Select the Combine work rate check box to specify that the work rate of this resource allocation should be combined with the work rates of one or more other 'Work From Task' modelled resource allocations. This is useful if you have two allocations of the same resource working together to complete a task. For example, you might have two roofers working together to tile a roof. If you clear this check box, the work rate of this allocation is never combined with that of other allocations and the resource is considered to be working on its own. This check box appears only for Work From Task modelled allocations.

Select a priority in the Priority field.

Select the shape to apply to the resource allocation when it is a milestone, indicating that the allocation occurs at a single point in time, in the Zero duration appearance field.
