Editing resource allocations

When you assign a resource allocation, the default allocation for that resource is assigned. You can edit permanent and consumable resource allocations so that an allocation other than the default is assigned. There are several ways to edit a resource allocation:

  • By displaying the Resource Allocation Properties dialog and making the changes you want.
  • By displaying the assignment view and editing the resource allocation in the assignment grid. The columns in the assignment grid display the same information that is available on the Resource Allocation Properties dialogs.
  • By editing the resource bar that represents that allocation.
  • By using the fields in the Resource Modelling group, on the Allocation tab.
  • By editing data in the spreadsheet.

To display the Resource Allocation Properties dialog, you can do any of the following:

  • Right-click the resource bar, then select Properties.
  • Right-click the resource allocation in the assignment view, then select Properties.
  • Select the resource bar in the bar chart or the resource allocation in the assignment view, then click Properties on the Quick Access toolbar.
  • Select the resource bar in the bar chart, then press SHIFT F2 or ALT ENTER.
  • Double-click the resource bar in the bar chart.

If you attempt to edit a resource allocation in such a way that the finish date of the task would be changed, your edit will fail unless you also have 'Modify' access rights over tasks.

If more than one resource allocation is selected when you display the Resource Allocation Properties dialog, then the dialog only displays information that is common to all the selected allocations, and any edits you make will apply to all of them.

The dialog is divided into a number of tabs. To access help for each tab, press F1 while viewing the tab.
