Specifying what is displayed in a calendar view

The first time you open a calendar view, it displays the Programme chart and the month containing today's date. Once a calendar view has been opened, you use the project view to specify the scope of what is displayed in it, in the same way as you use the project view to specify the scope of what is displayed in a bar chart view: click a chart, summary group or hammock to display its contents in the calendar view, or CTRL or SHIFT-click more than one chart, summary group or hammock to display their contents in the calendar view.

Unlike bar chart views, calendar views do not display summary tasks, expanded tasks or hammocks; only their contents. This means, for example, that if you click a chart in the project view that includes a summary task, all of the tasks within the chart with the exception of the summary task will be displayed in the calendar view. To display the contents of any nested summary tasks, expanded tasks or hammocks at the same time as the chart or summary group in which they are located, CTRL- click the nested chart, summary group or hammock and the chart or summary group in which it is located. This is illustrated below, where the Plot 1 chart and the First Floor summary group have been CTRL-selected in the project view so that the contents of both will be displayed in a calendar view:

A chart and summary group CTRL-selected

If a project contains nothing but expanded tasks and summary tasks at its top level - within the Programme chart - this means that if you display a calendar view with just the Programme chart selected in the project view, nothing will be displayed in the calendar view.

You can apply filters to calendar views to modify the scope of what they display, just as you can with bar chart views.

You can open a calendar view in RBS or CBS mode, by double-clicking one or more resources or cost centres when a calendar view is displayed, or by displaying a RBS or CBS view then displaying a calendar view. When a calendar view is displayed in RBS or CBS mode, it displays the allocations of the selected resources or cost centres. As allocations do not have names, if you choose to display the Name field in a calendar view, this field displays the name of the resource or cost centre and the name of the task when a calendar view is displayed for a RBS or CBS view.

When you save a calendar view, details of its scope are saved so that when the calendar view is reopened, it displays the same charts, summary groups and hammocks.
