Printing the active view

To print the active view:

  1. Click the File tab, click Print, then click Print Options. The Print dialog appears.
  2. On the Output tab, specify the way in which you want to output the view in the Output to group. You can output to a printer, the Clipboard, and to a file as a WMF or EMF graphic. You might want to output the current view to the Clipboard if you want to paste it into another program, for example into a presentation or a report. Outputting to a file enables you to do the same thing, but saves the output as a WMF or EMF file which you can use again.

You can choose more than one output option at the same time. For example you could output the view to both the printer and the Clipboard simultaneously.
    • To output your project information to a printer, select the printer you want to use in the Printer field. To change the options for the selected printer, click Properties to display the standard printer driver dialog.
    • To output your project information to a graphics file, select Picture file, then either enter the path and filename to which you want to output the information or click Browse to browse for the path and to select the graphics file format. You can output project information to a wide range of graphics file formats, including GIF, JPG and PNG. If you specify a filename but no file extension, the project information is output to a PNG file.
  3. Specify the pages that you want to print in the Page range group. Select All to print all the pages, Selection to print only the objects that are selected in the view, or select Pages, then enter the numbers of the pages that you want to print to print particular pages.
  4. Specify whether you want to print all pages, even pages or odd pages in the specified page range in the Print field.
  5. Enter the number of copies that you want to print and specify whether you want the copies to be collated in the Copies group. When you choose to collate your copies, they are printed in the order of 1,2,3,... 1,2,3,... 1,2,3 rather than 1,1,1,... 2,2,2,... 3,3,3.
  6. Select any additional printing options you require.
  7. Click Print to output the view to your chosen destination; alternatively click Close to save the current settings without printing or click Cancel to close the dialog without saving the current settings.

If you have output the view to the Clipboard or a graphic file, you can now paste it or import the graphic file into another program such as a word processor or reporting tool.
