Opening and saving projects in Asta Powerproject SaaS

As well as being able to work with projects that are located on your local computer and on any mapped network drives, you can save projects in the Cloud, using the Cloud storage area that is provided to you alongside Asta Powerproject SaaS. Saving projects in the Cloud storage area is useful if you intend to access Asta Powerproject SaaS using multiple devices, or if you want colleagues to be able to access your projects.

If you are using a computer running macOS, Asta Powerproject SaaS and its related apps do not have access to files that are stored locally or on network drives, unless you have installed a beta version of Microsoft Remote Desktop Client, so any information in this topic relating to files stored locally or on network drives does not apply.

Opening projects in Asta Powerproject SaaS

To open a project in Asta Powerproject SaaS:

  1. Launch Asta Powerproject SaaS.
  2. Click File, then click Open. The Open tab of the Backstage view appears.
  3. Click Browse. The Select window appears. By default, this defaults to showing you the Asta Powerproject SaaS 'Projects' folder in your Cloud storage area:

The Select dialog, displaying your Cloud storage 'Projects' folder

As with the Files Share app, note that the shortcuts in the left pane of the dialog - 'Desktop', 'Downloads', 'Documents', etc - point to folders in your Cloud storage area, and not to folders on your computer's local drive.
  4. Navigate around the folder structure to locate the project you want to open, then click Open to open the project in Asta Powerproject SaaS.

If you want to open a file from your computer's local drive or from a network drive, rather than from your Cloud storage area, click 'This PC' in the left pane to see all of the local and network drives that are available to you, as well as the drive that represents your Cloud storage area - the 'Shared Data (Y:)' drive:

All available drives shown in the Select dialog

In the illustration above, as well as the 'Shared Data (Y:)' drive - your Cloud storage area - the computer's local 'C:' drive and two network drives - 'O:' and 'Q:' - are available. The drives available to you may differ from those shown above.

To navigate to a drive, double-click it. You can then navigate around that local or network drive to find the project you want to open.

Saving projects in Asta Powerproject SaaS

If you save a project by clicking Save in the Quick Access toolbar or by clicking File - Save, the project is saved in its original location.

To save a copy of a project in another location in Asta Powerproject SaaS:

  1. Click File, then click Save As. The Save As tab of the Backstage view appears.

  2. Click Browse. The Save As dialog appears. By default, this defaults to showing you the Asta Powerproject SaaS 'Projects' folder in your Cloud storage area:

The Save As dialog, displaying your Cloud storage 'Projects' folder

As with the Files Share app, note that the shortcuts in the left pane of the dialog - 'Desktop', 'Downloads', 'Documents', etc - point to folders in your Cloud storage area, and not to folders on your computer's local drive.
  3. Navigate around the folder structure to locate the folder in which you want to save a copy of the project, then click Save.

We recommend that you save projects to your Cloud storage area rather than to a local or network drive, as saving to the Cloud storage area is much quicker. If you want to keep a project on a local or network drive, save it to the Cloud storage area, then use the Files Share app to copy or move the project from there to the local or network drive.
