Format Bar Chart dialog - Progress tab
You use the Progress tab of the Format Bar Chart dialog to specify the way in which progress is displayed on the bar chart using progress lines and shading. You can draw progress lines on the bar chart, display progress shading on tasks and specify the way in which you want to display progress lines and progressed sections. You can also choose to display or hide completed and uncompleted tasks and allocations.

To access the Format Bar Chart dialog, on the Format tab, in the Format group, click Format Bar Chart.

Select this check box to display progress lines on the bar chart from the progress periods you select using the fields below, or clear the check box to omit progress lines from the bar chart.
If you clear this check box, progress lines and shading are not displayed in the date zone, regardless of whether you have selected the Display progress lines or Display progress shading check boxes on the General tab of the Date Zone Properties dialog.

Progress entry date line only |
Select this check box to display only the progress line that relates to the report date of the current progress entry period in the bar chart, or clear the check box to display progress lines from the progress periods that you select in the Progress periods field.
If progress lines or shading are displayed in the date zone and you select this check box, only the progress line of the progress entry period is displayed in the date zone, and the date zone is shaded with the appearance of this progress period only up to its report date.

Override colour |
Select a colour in this field to override the colour of all progress lines in the bar chart with a single colour of your choice, or select None to display progress lines using the line style colours that have been specified for each progress period.
If progress lines or shading are displayed in the date zone and you select an override colour, all progress lines and shading in the date zone appear in the selected colour. |
Progress periods |
Select the progress periods whose progress lines you want to display in the bar chart.
If progress lines or shading are displayed in the date zone, only progress lines and shading relating to the progress periods that are selected in this field appear in the date zone. |
Show shading |
Select this check box to display progress shading in the bar chart, or clear the check box to omit progress shading.

Tasks | Select Default shading to display progress shading across the top half of tasks and allocations, or select Solid shading to display progress shading across the entire height of tasks and allocations. |
Tasks - Fixed | Click this radio button to display progress shading on tasks and allocations in the colour that you select in the field to the right. |

Click this radio button to view only tasks and allocations that have been progressed; if a task or allocation is partially-progressed, only the progressed portion is displayed.

Click this radio button to view only tasks and allocations that have not been progressed; if a task or allocation is partially-progressed, only the unprogressed portion is displayed.

Select this check box to split partially-progressed tasks, or clear the check box to display partially-progressed tasks as a single task.

Use first out of sequence section |
Select this check box to display the progress line at the start of the first uncompleted section on bars containing tasks with out of sequence progress, or clear the check box to display it on the progress period report date.
This applies only if the progress line is configured to appear jagged; if the progress line is configured to appear straight, it is always drawn on the progress period report date.

Display progress on live tasks |
Select this check box to display progress on tasks from the live project when the current view is displayed in 'jagged progress' mode, or clear the check box to hide progress on these tasks so that progress is only displayed on the tasks from the current baseline, or from individual project baselines if 'jagged progress' mode is configured to show progress on them.

Jagged (draw to task progress) |
Click this radio button to display progress lines as jagged vertical lines, showing tasks that are behind or ahead of schedule.

Straight (draw to report date) |
Click this radio button to display progress lines as straight vertical lines, showing the report date.

How do I...

- Select the On check box in the Lines group to display progress lines on the bar chart.
- Select the Progress entry date line only check box to display only the progress line that relates to the report date of the current progress entry period, or clear the check box to display progress lines from the progress periods that you select in the Progress periods field.
To select all progress periods at once:
- Click the name of the first progress period.
- Hold down SHIFT and click the name of the last progress period.
- Click any of the progress periods' check boxes.

Select the Show shading check box to display progress shading in the bar chart, or clear the check box to omit progress shading from the bar chart.
If you do display progress shading, specify whether you want to display it all in a colour of your choice, or using the colours assigned to the relevant progress periods using the fields in the Shading group.

Use the Tasks and Summaries
The summary

Select a colour in the Override colour field to override the colour of all progress lines in the bar chart with a single colour of your choice, or select None to display progress lines using the line style colours that have been specified for each progress period.
Click the Jagged radio button in the Line style group to display progress lines as jagged vertical lines, showing tasks that are behind or ahead of schedule, or click the Straight radio button to display them as straight vertical lines, each one drawn on the report date of the appropriate progress period.

You can choose where the progress line is drawn on bars containing out of sequence progress, when the progress line is configured to appear jagged rather than straight. You can display it either on the progress period report date, or at the start of the first uncompleted section on the bar. Select the Use first out of sequence section check box to display the progress line at the start of the first uncompleted section, or clear the check box to display it on the progress period report date.

Select the All radio button in the Drawing group to display all tasks and allocations, regardless of their state of progress, select the Completed radio button to display only tasks and allocations that have been completed, or select the Uncompleted radio button to display only tasks and allocations that have not been completed.
If a task or allocation is partially-progressed and you select Completed or Uncompleted, only the completed or uncompleted portion of the task or annotation is displayed.

Select the Split progressed sections check box to split partially-progressed tasks, or clear the check box to display partially-progressed tasks as a single task.

Select the Display progress on live tasks check box to display progress on tasks from the live project when the current view is displayed in 'jagged progress' mode, or clear the check box to hide progress on these tasks so that progress is only displayed on the tasks from the current baseline, or from individual project baselines if 'jagged progress' mode is configured to show progress on them.
