Constraint fields

For each field listed below, the following information is given:

  • Description - the information displayed by the field when added to the spreadsheet or to a text annotation.
  • Parameters - any additional, optional parameters that you can use to modify the information that the field displays or the way in which the information is displayed.
  • Editable? - whether the field is editable when displayed in a spreadsheet column. If a field is editable in the spreadsheet, you can change the data displayed in the column to edit the properties of the corresponding bar, task or allocation.

Buffer task

Description

Whether a task has been defined as a 'buffer task', ie one that can shrink or expand in size to consume any float, protecting a finish date or any successor tasks and acting as a contingency.

Can be delayed

Description

Whether a task or allocation can be delayed by resource levelling.

Can be split

Description

Whether a task or allocation can be split by resource levelling.

Can be stretched

Description

Whether a task or allocation can be stretched by resource levelling.

Constraint

Description

The type of constraint flag (if any) applied to a task.

Finish constraint date

Description

The date of a task's finish constraint flag, if one is applied to the task.

Finish flag gap

Description

The duration between a task's finish date and the date of the task's finish constraint flag, if one is applied to the task.

Holding pin

Description

Whether a Holding Pin constraint has been assigned to a task.

Interruptible

Description

Whether a task has been defined as an 'interruptible task', ie one with at least two incoming links, one of which constrains the start of the task and one of which constrains the finish of the task, in which work can be interrupted at some point before the finish of the task, that has been marked as interruptible.

Levelling delay

Description

The duration by which a task has been delayed as a result of resource levelling.

Levelling priority

Description

A number between 0 and 100 where 0 is the lowest priority and the task is more likely to be affected by levelling, and 100 is the highest priority and the task is less likely to be affected by levelling.

Min alloc

Description

The minimum allocation below which you do not want a resource allocation to be stretched by resource levelling.

Min split

Description

The minimum duration after which you do not want a resource allocation to be split by resource levelling.

Must complete within

Description

Whether a task should be forced to complete within the time period, shift or work pattern in which it starts. This field enables you to model tasks that must be completed without a break.

Placement

Description

Whether a task is positioned to start as soon as possible (ASAP), as late as possible (ALAP) or forced to be critical (ASAP Force Critical).

Start constraint date

Description

The date of a task's start constraint flag, if one is applied to the task.

Start flag gap

Description

The duration between a task's start date and the date of the task's start constraint flag, if one is applied to the task.

Start on new day

Description

Whether a task should be forced to start at the beginning of a new day (according to the task's calendar) following a reschedule, even if the finish dates of the task's predecessors are such that it could otherwise start at some point during the previous day. Setting this field for tasks prevents them from starting at unrealistic times such as 15:34:52 and forces them to start at a time that is more likely to reflect the way in which they are actually worked on.

Tasks may overlap

Description

Whether the tasks on a bar can overlap. You may want to allow the tasks on a bar to overlap in order to plan a unit network in which tasks can overlap on a single bar, rather than planning it over a number of bars, to save space.
