Modelling resources
You can model resources in a variety of ways:
- You can enter default modelling information for a resource in its Resource Properties dialog so that whenever you assign the resource to a task, the allocation is modelled automatically.
- You can enter modelling information for individual resource allocations in the Resource Allocation Properties dialog, so that each allocation of a resource can be modelled differently.
- You can edit modelling information for individual resource allocations using the fields in the Resource Modelling group, on the Allocation tab.
To enter default modelling details, display the Resource Properties dialog for a resource and click the Assignment tab.
To enter modelling details for a specific resource allocation, display the Resource Allocation Properties dialog for an allocation and click the Modelling tab.
As a simple alternative to modelling resources, it is possible to model tasks in terms of task work without assigning resources to them. This enables you to record the amount of task work that must be performed against a task, record its work rate, and to recalculate the duration of the task automatically according to these figures. Conversely, it also allows you to edit the duration of a task work-driven task and to recalculate either the amount of task work or the work rate accordingly. Modelling tasks in this way is not compatible with resource modelling. For this reason, when a task's work rate is first set, any resource allocations on the task are automatically set to Non-Modelled and it is not possible to change the allocations' modelling type while the task's work rate remains non-zero. Similarly, any new allocations on the task are set automatically to Non-Modelled.
