Progressing a task from its allocations

When you assign progress to an allocation, the task's progress is not calculated automatically; you have to progress the task from its allocations.

When you are ready for the task's progress to be calculated, select the task, then on the Home tab, in the Progress group, click the Enter Progress dropdown and select Progress From Allocations.

You might prefer to progress the allocations rather than the task. For example, if a task is being worked on by several employees all working at different rates, you will get a more accurate reflection of progress if you progress the allocations rather than the task. The illustration below shows three permanent resource allocations which are 75%, 50% and 25% complete respectively on a task 100 hours long:

..Junior Engineer

..Trainee Engineer

The duration of progress on the allocations is 150 hours out of a total of 300 hours. So when you progress the task from its allocations, it is marked as 50% complete and the remaining allocation sections are moved forward to show that they are still to be completed:

If you do not progress a task from its allocations manually, Asta Powerproject does it automatically when you next reschedule.

If a task has one or more task activities, the only way to mark progress against it is by marking progress against the task activities themselves - all other methods of marking progress are unavailable for such tasks.
