Progressing tasks using task activities

If a task has one or more task activities, the only way to mark progress against it is by marking progress against the task activities themselves - all other methods of marking progress are unavailable for such tasks.

To mark progress against a task's activities:

  1. Right-click the task against which you want to mark progress and select Properties. The Bar and Task Properties dialog appears.
  2. Click the Task tab, then click Task Activities in the left pane of the dialog. The grid on this page displays a list of all task activities that have been associated with the task.
  3. Record the progress of the task activities in the % Complete column; if a task activity is 100% complete, you can indicate this by selecting the check box in the Completed column. You can mark progress against a task's activities in any order: the order in which they appear in the Activities grid is irrelevant.

As you mark progress against a task activity, a new completed section is marked on the task, and the task's overall percentage complete is updated - taking the task's activity's weighting value into account. There is no direct link between completed sections and task activities.
