Introduction to booking out data
You can transfer ownership of sections of a project to a new separate project for remote editing, then incorporate the edited sections and new objects back into the master project to bring it up to date. This is useful when you want to work on a section of a project independently from the rest of the project. For example, you could book out a section of a project to:
- Work on it from home using your portable computer.
- Give it to a contractor or colleague for them to plan that section in detail.
- Plan that section in detail without the possibility of other users locking the objects with which you want to work.
You can book out one or more charts or summary groups at a time. Booking out a chart or summary group copies the chart or summary group into a separate .PP file which can then be edited on its own, apart from the main project. The project from which you book out data is known as the "master project"; the project into which data is booked out is known as the "destination project". You can only book out a chart or summary group if your security group's access rights permit it.
After editing a destination project, you can book it back into the master project to update the master project with your changes.
You can cancel any book outs that you have performed. If your security group's access rights permit it, you can also cancel book outs that have been performed by other users.
