Editing lead/lag type and time

You can specify lead/lag time as a duration or as a percentage of the link duration by using the Link Start and Link Finish tabs of the Link Properties dialog. Specify lead/lag time as a percentage if you want the start/finish of the link to be repositioned if the task is edited, or as a duration if you do not want it to be repositioned.
For example, the illustration below shows a link from the finish of one task to the middle of a 4 day task, and the lead/lag period on the link end is 2 days:
If you specify a lag type of Time, the link end remains in the same position relative to the start of the second task if the duration of the second task increases:
If you specify a lag type of Percent, the link end is repositioned so that it remains positioned halfway through the second task if the duration of the second task increases:

You can edit the lead/lag period at the start or finish of a link by using the Link Start and Link Finish tabs of the Link Properties dialog.
When the lead/lag period is 0, the link is drawn exactly from the start or finish of the task:
|
|
0 lead/lag at link start |
0 lead/lag at link end |
A positive value creates lead time, which is drawn after the start or finish of the predecessor or successor task:
|
|
+ (positive) lead/lag at link start |
+ (positive) lead/lag at link end |
A negative value creates lag time, which is drawn before the start or finish of the predecessor or successor task:
|
|
- (negative) lead/lag at link start |
- (negative) lead/lag at link end |
Be aware that by editing lead/lag periods, you might inadvertently position links on top of each other. For example, if you have a Start-to-Start link with +50% lead/lag on both the link start and end, and you have a Finish-to-Finish link on the same tasks with -50% lead/lag on both the link start and end, the two links will be drawn on top of each other.
To edit lead/lag type and time:
- Display the Link Properties dialog by right-clicking the link and selecting Properties.
- On the Link Start or Link Finish tab, specify whether you want to enter the lead/lag as an amount of time or as a percentage of the link duration in the Lag type field and enter the amount of lead/lag in the Lead/Lag field.
- Close the dialog.
