Updating an Enterprise server to a later version

You use the Update page to recreate an Enterprise server and reconnect its data sources to it. The main reason for recreating an Enterprise server is to upgrade it to a later version, using an image of the later version that has been downloaded from the Cloud. You can also downgrade an Enterprise server to an earlier version, using an image of the earlier version that has been downloaded from the Cloud. You should only downgrade an Enterprise server if absolutely necessary and if requested by Elecosoft's Technical Support department.

To access the Update page, on the Servers page, click the Actions dropdown underneath the Enterprise server, then click Update.

To update an Enterprise server to a later version - or downgrade it to an earlier version:

  1. If possible, ensure that no Asta Powerproject users are accessing projects on the Enterprise server. If any users are accessing projects on the Enterprise server, they will lose their connection as soon as you update the server and may lose data.
  2. The Available images field displays the various Enterprise server images that have been downloaded and cached. Select the image of the version to which you want to upgrade - or downgrade - the Enterprise server. Elecosoft's Technical Support department will advise which image to use if you are unsure.
  3. Click Update. The Enterprise server is recreated using the selected image and its data sources are reconnected.
  4. Click Back to List to return to the Servers page.

Once you have upgraded an Enterprise server to a later version, you must convert its data sources to the same version.

Once you have downgraded an Enterprise server to an earlier version, you must edit your data sources to make them refer back to the old SQL Server database - which should still exist, unless you have deleted it from SQL Server.
