Viewing a task's predecessor and successor tasks

Sometimes you may not be able to see a task's predecessor and successor tasks, for example if they are in different charts. You can display a task's predecessor and successor tasks by displaying the current view in 'predecessors & successors' mode.

To display the current view in 'predecessors & successors' mode:

  1. Select the task whose predecessors and successors you want to view. If you select more than one task, you will view the predecessor and successor tasks of all the selected tasks.
  2. Click the View dropdown in the View group on the Home tab, then select Predecessors & Successors. The current view is toggled into 'predecessors & successors' mode.

Note the following points about the 'predecessors & successors' mode:

  • When a view is displayed in 'predecessors & successors' mode, the predecessor and successor tasks are displayed in the same order that they would appear in the natural order of the chart hierarchy, in other words the order in which the tasks and bars were positioned in the bar chart when they were drawn.
  • You can update this view to display the predecessor and successor tasks of another task simply by double-clicking a different task.
  • Note that you cannot display the current view in 'predecessors & successors' mode if it is currently displayed in 'jagged progress' mode.

Select the Predecessors & Successors command again to toggle the current view out of 'predecessors & successors' mode and back into normal mode.
