Viewing a task's complete chain of linked predecessor tasks

You can display the complete chain of linked predecessor tasks that lead up to a task, from the earliest task(s) in the chain(s) to the task itself, by displaying the current view in 'path to task' mode. When displaying the current view in this mode, you can choose to include all linked predecessor tasks, or only those that are linked by driving links - ie links that 'drive' the tasks at the end of them.

To display the current view in 'path to task' mode:

  1. Select the task whose predecessors you want to view.
  2. Click the View dropdown in the View group on the Home tab, then select Path to Task. The Path to/from Task Options dialog appears.
  3. Specify whether you want to include all tasks, or only those that are linked by driving links, then click OK. The current view is toggled into 'path to task' mode.

Note that you cannot display the current view in 'path to task' mode if it is currently displayed in 'jagged progress' mode.

Select the Path to Task command again to toggle the current view out of 'path to task' mode and back into normal mode.
