Navigating around the project hierarchy using the project view
The project view provides a view onto the whole project. Using the project view you can navigate from one chart to another and from one project to another within a portfolio of projects, by clicking the charts and projects in the project view.
The project view is the left-most pane in the bar chart window. You can drag the spreadsheet or bar chart over the project view to change the amount that is visible. To do this, position the cursor over the vertical bar that divides the spreadsheet or bar chart from the project view, then when the cursor shape is , drag left or right.
You can specify the font in which the project view is displayed. To do this, click Project View Font in the Format group on the Home tab. The Format Font dialog appears, which you can use to specify the font, style and colour of the text in the project view.
You can turn the project view on and off by clicking in the status bar.
Hierarchies in the project view
The project view displays hierarchies and libraries within the project, or portfolio of projects, including the natural order hierarchy, the resource hierarchy, the cost centre hierarchy, the calendar library, the code library hierarchy and the progress period hierarchy.
To view the contents of a hierarchy, click the + box alongside the hierarchy or double-click the hierarchy's name. The subcharts and summary groups or folders on that level of the hierarchy are displayed in the project view. You can expand further levels of the hierarchy by clicking the + box alongside a subordinate item in the hierarchy, or by double-clicking its name. To expand all of the levels in a branch of a hierarchy, right-click an item in the hierarchy and select Expand - All Levels; to expand the hierarchy to a specific level, right-click an item and select Expand - TonLevels (where n is the number of levels to which you want to expand the hierarchy). To contract a branch of a hierarchy, right-click an item and select Contract.
