Ribbon Customisation dialog - Ribbon tab

You use the Ribbon tab of the Ribbon Customisation dialog to modify the commands that are located on the Ribbon. You can add commands to the Ribbon, remove commands from the Ribbon and modify the location of commands within the Ribbon's various tabs and groups. You can also change the structure of the Ribbon, adding and removing tabs and groups to suit the way you work.

You can also use this tab to share Ribbon, Quick Access toolbar and Object Edit toolbar customisation settings with other users by exporting your customisation settings to an XML file, then importing them into a different instance of Asta Powerproject.

To access the Ribbon Customisation dialog, right-click the Ribbon or click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Quick Access toolbar, then select Customise from the menu that appears.

Field/Button Description
Choose commands from

Select a category in order to display the commands in that category in the Command list directly underneath this field. Select:

  • All Commands to display all available commands, regardless of whether or not they are currently included on the Ribbon.
  • All 4D Commands to display all Asta Powerproject 4D-related commands.
  • Commands Not in the Ribbon to display all commands that are not currently included on the Ribbon.
  • Object Edit to display all commands that are intended to be displayed on the Object Edit toolbar.
  • Macros to display your user macros.
  • A specific Ribbon tab to display the commands that are currently included on that tab.

Macros are not available in Asta Powerproject SaaS.
Command list A list of the commands in the currently-selected category. Click a command to select it. If you know the name of the command that you want to find, click in the field and enter the initial letter of the command to make the list scroll to those commands that begin with that letter.
Add Click this button to add the command that is currently selected in the Command list to the Ribbon. The command is added directly underneath whichever command is currently selected in the Tab/group list.
Remove Click this button to delete the tab, group or command that is currently selected in the Tab/group list from the Ribbon.
Customise the Ribbon

Select the type of Ribbon tabs to display in the Tab/group list directly underneath this field. Select:

  • Main tabs to display the tabs that are displayed all the time on the Ribbon.
  • Tool tabs to display the tabs that are only displayed on the Ribbon when you are carrying out specific tasks - for example the Histogram Tools tab, which only appears when you are editing a histogram.
Tab/group list A hierarchical list of tabs, groups and commands. Click a command to select it - either to remove it from the Ribbon tab, to change its position within its tab group, or to specify that you want to add a command from the Command list directly underneath it. You can also select tabs and groups, to rename them, remove them or change their position.
Up Click this button to move the tab, group or command that is currently selected in the Tab/group list up one position in the list - moving it one position to the left on the Ribbon.
Down Click this button to move the tab, group or command that is currently selected in the Tab/group list down one position in the list - moving it one position to the right on the Ribbon.
New Tab Click this button to add a new tab to the Tab/group list. If you add a new tab, a new group is added automatically within the new tab, as tabs must have at least one group. You can then select the tab and its tab group, click Modify to rename them, and add commands from the Command list to the tab.
New Group Click this button to add a new group to the end of the tab that is currently selected in the Tab/group list. You can then select the tab group, click Modify to rename it, and add commands from the Command list to the group.
Modify

Click this button to rename the tab or tab group that is currently selected in the Tab/group list, and (in the case of macro commands) to change its description and icon.

 

Macros are not available in Asta Powerproject SaaS.
Reset Click this button to reset the Ribbon, Quick Access toolbar and Object Edit toolbar to their default state, undoing any changes that you have made to them.
Import/Export

Share Ribbon, Quick Access toolbar and Object Edit toolbar customisation settings between different instances of Asta Powerproject. Select:

  • Import customisation file to import an XML file containing Ribbon, Quick Access toolbar and Object Edit toolbar customisation settings that has been saved on another computer into Asta Powerproject. Importing a customisation file customises the Ribbon, Quick Access toolbar and Object Edit toolbar in this instance of Asta Powerproject according to the settings in the XML file.
  • Export all customisations to save the changes that you have made to the Ribbon, Quick Access toolbar and Object Edit toolbar to an XML file, which you can then import into Asta Powerproject on another computer. This enables you to customise the Ribbon, Quick Access toolbar and Object Edit toolbar on one computer and share the customisation settings with other Asta Powerproject users.

How do I...

  1. Locate the command that you want to add to the Ribbon by selecting the appropriate category in the Choose commands from field and selecting the command in the Command list that appears directly underneath it. If you know the name of the command that you want to find, click in the field and enter the initial letter of the command to make the list scroll to those commands that begin with that letter.
  2. Locate the Ribbon tab and group to which you want to add the command using the Customise the Ribbon field and the Tab/group list that appears directly underneath it.
  3. In the Tab/group list, select the command below which you want to add the new command.
  4. Click Add.
  1. Locate the Ribbon tab to which you want to add the group using the Customise the Ribbon field and the Tab/group list that appears directly underneath it.
  2. In the Tab/group list, select the tab to which you want to add the new group.
  3. Click New Group. A new group is added to the end of the tab. You can then select the tab group, click Modify to rename it, and add commands from the Command list to the group.
  1. Select the type of Ribbon tab that you want to add in the Customise the Ribbon field: select Main tabs if you want to add a tab that is displayed all the time, or select Tool tabs if you want to add a tab that is only displayed when you are carrying out a specific task.
  2. Click New Tab. A new tab is added to the end of the list, containing a new tab group. You can then select the tab and its tab group, click Modify to rename them, and add commands from the Command list to the tab.
  1. Locate the Ribbon tab, group or command that you want to delete using the Customise the Ribbon field and the Tab/group list that appears directly underneath it.
  2. In the Tab/group list, select the tab, group or command that you want to remove.
  3. Click Remove.
  1. Locate the Ribbon tab, group or command that you want to move using the Customise the Ribbon field and the Tab/group list that appears directly underneath it.
  2. In the Tab/group list, select the tab, group or command that you want to move.
  3. Click Up to move the selected tab, group or command up one position in the list - moving it one position to the left on the Ribbon - or click Down to move it down one position - moving it one position to the right on the Ribbon.
  1. Locate the Ribbon tab or group that you want to rename using the Customise the Ribbon field and the Tab/group list that appears directly underneath it.
  2. In the Tab/group list, select the tab or group that you want to rename.
  3. Click Modify. The Rename dialog appears.
  4. Enter a new name to apply to the tab or group in the Display name field and click OK.
  1. Click Import/Export and select Export all customisations. The Save As dialog appears.
  2. Select a folder in which to save the XML file and enter a name in the File name field, then click Save. Your customisation settings are saved to the XML file, which you can then import into Asta Powerproject on another computer.
  1. Click Import/Export and select Import customisation file. The Open dialog appears.
  2. Select the XML file that you want to import and click Open. The customisation settings in the selected file are applied to the Ribbon, the Quick Access toolbar and the Object Edit toolbar.

Click Reset. Any changes that you have made to the Ribbon, the Quick Access toolbar and the Object Edit toolbar are undone.
