Introduction to the Ribbon

The commands that you use while working on a project are located on a 'Ribbon'. The Ribbon is designed to provide fast access to the commands that you need as you work with your projects. The commands are organised in logical groups, which are collected together under tabs. Each tab relates to a type of activity, such as displaying different items in a view or working with allocations.

The Ribbon's Home tab is illustrated below:

Click the Ribbon tabs to move between them and access the commands that they contain.

The File tab is slightly different to the other Ribbon tabs: click this to display the Backstage view, which contains the commands that you use to do things to a project, rather than within a project.

If you use Asta Powerproject 4D, a 4D tab appears on the Ribbon. Refer to the Asta Powerproject 4D Help for more information.

Launching dialogs from the Ribbon

Some groups on the Ribbon include a Dialog launcher control in the bottom right corner which you can use to launch a dialog, to access more options than are available on the Ribbon itself. For example, the Progress group on the Home tab includes one of these dialog launchers:

Click the Dialog launcher control in the Progress group to launch the Enter Progress dialog, which offers you more progress recording options than are available on the Ribbon.

Quick Access toolbar

Above the Ribbon, to the top left of the Asta Powerproject window, is the Quick Access toolbar:

Quick Access Toolbar

You use the buttons on this toolbar to access a number of commonly-used commands.

You can choose to display the Quick Access toolbar above or below the Ribbon. To do this:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Quick Access toolbar.
  2. Select Show Below the Ribbon or Show Above the Ribbon from the menu that appears.

Changing the colour scheme of the Ribbon

You can change the colour scheme of the Ribbon. To do this:

  1. Click Style Options to the top-right of the Ribbon tabs.
  2. Select Colour Scheme from the menu that appears, then select the colour scheme that you want to apply.

Minimising the Ribbon

You can minimise the Ribbon at any point, which removes it temporarily from view. You may want to do this in order to view more of your project on screen. To do this:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Quick Access toolbar.
  2. Select Minimise the Ribbon from the menu that appears.

Repeat the steps above to redisplay the Ribbon.

Updating the Ribbon when installing a new release

Some releases of Asta Powerproject introduce changes to the Ribbon. For example, some releases may introduce new commands to the Ribbon to allow you to access new features. If a new release includes changes to the Ribbon, you are asked whether you want to update the Ribbon when you install the new release. If you choose not to update the Ribbon, new features that have been introduced in a release may be difficult, or impossible, to access. You can choose to update the Ribbon at any time, by customising the Ribbon and resetting it to its default state.
