Permanent Resource Properties dialog - Details tab
You use the Details tab of the Permanent Resource Properties dialog to view and maintain general details of the selected permanent resource. You can name the resource, specify the calendar to be used by the resource and the date range within which the resource is available, specify the amount of the resource you have available and specify its appearance.
If you use Asta Site Progress to record progress against tasks and build stages in Asta Powerproject projects using a mobile device and you export information on whichever tasks the user's permanent resource is assigned to, you use this tab to select the Asta Site Progress user to which each permanent resource relates.
If the permanent resource has more than one skill, you can select the skill under which you want to edit the permanent resource using the skill selector at the bottom of the dialog.

To access the Permanent Resource Properties dialog, right-click a permanent resource in Library Explorer or the project view and select Properties.

Field/Button | Description |
---|---|
Name | Enter the full descriptive name of the permanent resource, for example Interior Painter. |
Short single name | Enter the singular name for the permanent resource, ie a name that describes one of the resource, for example Painter. |
Short plural name | Enter the plural name of the permanent resource, ie a name that describes more than one of the resource, for example Painters. |
E-mail address | Enter the resource's email address, if applicable. |
Calendar | Select the calendar to which the resource works. Click Properties to view and edit the details of the calendar. |
Availability - Skill |
For multi-skilled resources, enter the number or proportion of the resource that is available under the currently-selected skill.
For example, if a resource with a total resource availability of 1.00 has two skills and is available for 60% of the time under the currently-selected skill and for 40% of the time under their other skill, enter 0.60 in this field. If a resource with a total resource availability of 2.00 has two skills and is available for 75% of the time under the currently-selected skill and for 25% of the time under their other skill, enter 1.50 in this field.
For a resource with two skills, the resource's availability under the other skill is updated automatically so that the sum of both availability figures matches the total availability of the resource. For resources with more than two skills, you must ensure that these figures match yourself.
If you enter an availability against a skill that is larger than the total availability of the resource, the availability of the resource is increased accordingly and the resource's availability under its other skills is unchanged. For example, if a resource with a total resource availability of 0.50 has two skills with availabilities of 0.25 each and you update the availability of one skill to 0.80, the availability of the other skill remains at 0.25 and the total resource availability is increased to 1.05. |
Availability - Resource |
Enter the total number of the resource that is available. For multi-skilled resources, enter the total availability of the resource under all of their skills.
For example, if the resource relates to a single person, enter 1.00 in this field. If a resource relates to two people, enter 2.00 in this field.
If you change the total availability of a resource by editing the value in this field, the Availability - Skill values are updated accordingly. For example, if you change a resource's total availability from 2.00 to 1.00, the resource's Availability - Skill values are halved as well.
If this is a subordinate permanent resource, the resource's total availability is rolled-up and included in the parent resource's Availability - Total availability.
When you first create a resource folder, the folder is given an initial availability of 1.00. When you create subordinate resources within the folder, the availability of the resource folder changes to the total availability of the resources within the folder, and is then displayed in the Availability - Total field. |
Availability - Total |
This field is available when viewing the properties of resource folders only. It displays the sum of the Availability - Resource values of the resources within the folder.
For example, if a permanent resource folder of Painters has subordinate resources of Matt Orme, Dom Webb and Helen Barr, each with an Availability - Resource value of 1.00, the total availability of the Painters resource is the 3.00: the sum of the availability of the individual painters. |
Available from... to | If the resource is only available after or before a particular date and time, enter the date(s) and time(s). |
Not available for new assignments |
Select this check box to prevent the permanent resource from being assigned to any tasks
It is good practice to select this check box for resources that are no longer actively engaged in your projects. |
Resource appearance |
Select a foreground colour, background colour, pattern and outline style with which to represent the resource. If the permanent resource has more than one skill, you can specify a different appearance for each skill.
By default, the outline style you select applies only to line-style histogram graphs that use the resource appearance. If you want the outline style to apply to the resource's allocations, select the Use Line Style On Allocations column check box against the resource in Library Explorer. |
Roll-ups | Click this button to view the total cost and income from all allocations of the selected permanent resource and from its subordinate resources. |
Site Progress user |
If you use Asta Site Progress to record progress against tasks and build stages in Asta Powerproject projects using a mobile device, there are a number of ways of determining which information is exported for each Asta Site Progress user.
If you export information on whichever tasks the user's permanent resource is assigned to, select the Asta Site Progress user to which the permanent resource relates in this field. You can associate the same Asta Site Progress user with more than one permanent resource. This field is available only if you are currently logged into Asta Site Progress configuration. |
Levelling | Click this button to view and maintain the default way in which resource levelling can affect allocations of the selected permanent resource. |
Skill selector |
For permanent resources that have more than one skill, select the skill under which you want to edit the permanent resource. You can then specify a different appearance for the resource in each skill.
