Format Bar Chart dialog - Allocations tab

You use the Allocations tab of the Format Bar Chart dialog to specify the way in which allocations are displayed on the bar chart and to determine which allocations are displayed.

Note that if the current view is displayed in 'jagged progress' mode, this tab is unavailable.

To access the Format Bar Chart dialog, on the Format tab, in the Format group, click Format Bar Chart.

Field Description
From task Click this radio button to display allocation bars with the same appearance as the code currently displayed on the task to which an allocation is assigned.
From resource Click this radio button to display allocation bars with the appearance set up for their resource or cost centre.
From type default Click this radio button to display allocation bars with the default appearance as set up in the Type default appearance group.
From library Click this radio button to display allocation bars with the appearance of the code assigned to an allocation from the selected code library.
Unsatisfied demand Double-click to set the default appearance of unsatisfied demand allocations. This appearance is only used if you click the From type default radio button in the Appearance group.
Satisfied demand Double-click to set the default appearance of satisfied demand allocations. This appearance is only used if you click the From type default radio button in the Appearance group.
Scheduled Double-click to set the default appearance of scheduled allocations. This appearance is only used if you click the From type default radio button in the Appearance group.
Cost Double-click to set the default appearance of cost allocations. This appearance is only used if you click the From type default radio button in the Appearance group.
Show - Demand Select this check box to display demand resource allocations in the bar chart, or clear the check box to hide them.
Show - Scheduled Select this check box to display scheduled resource allocations in the bar chart, or clear the check box to hide them.
Show - Costs Select this check box to display cost allocations in the bar chart, or clear the check box to hide them.
Show - Demand (RBS) Select this check box to display demand allocations in RBS and CBS views, or clear the check box to hide them.
Show - Scheduled (RBS) Select this check box to display scheduled allocations in RBS and CBS views, or clear the check box to hide them.
Resources and costs A hierarchical representation of the resources and cost centres in the project. Select a resource or cost centre's check box to display allocations of that resource or cost centre in the bar chart, or clear a check box to prevent allocations of that resource or cost centre from being displayed.
Sort allocations by name in WBS Select this check box to sort allocations alphanumerically by name when they appear under tasks in the bar chart (as opposed to in RBS or CBS views), or clear the check box to sort them by their internal ID number.
Show empty RBS/CBS lines

Select this check box to display an empty row for each resource or cost centre that has no assignments in the current view scope in RBS or CBS views, or clear the check box to omit resources or cost centres with no assignments from such views. Displaying resources or cost centres with no assignments in this way enables you to assign them to tasks within RBS and CBS views.

Show RBS/CBS summary tasks

Select this check box to display a summary task for each resource or cost centre in RBS or CBS views, that spans from the start of the earliest task to which the resource or cost centre is assigned to the finish of the latest task to which they are assigned, or clear the check box to turn off the display of these summary tasks.

How do I...

Click the From task radio button.

Click the From resource radio button.

  1. Click the From library radio button.
  2. Select the code library whose appearance you want to display in the bar chart in the field to the right of the radio button.

You can specify a different standard appearance for each type of allocation:

  1. Click the Use type default radio button.
  2. Double-click the appropriate field in the Type default appearance field. The Appearance dialog appears.
  3. Specify the foreground colour, background colour and pattern in which allocations of that type are displayed and click OK to return to the Format Bar Chart dialog.

Select a check box in the Show group to display a type of allocation, or clear the check box to hide the allocation type.

You can also show or hide allocations of specific resources and cost centres by selecting or clearing the resource or cost centre's check box in the Resources and costs field.

Select the Sort allocations by name in WBS check box to sort allocations alphanumerically by name when they appear under tasks in the bar chart (as opposed to in RBS or CBS views), or clear the check box to sort them by their internal ID number.
