Filter Wizard - Variance Values page
You use the Filter Wizard to create and edit the criteria of filters, which items must meet in order to be included in a filter. This page of the Filter Wizard appears if you have chosen to filter on the variance of task or allocation values between the live data and a baseline. You use this page to specify the variance parameters that will be included in the filtered view.

To access the Filter Wizard, click Insert or Edit within the Filter Properties dialog.

Field | Description |
---|---|
Use task or allocation variance | Specify whether you want to filter on the variance of task or allocation values. |
Duration variance | Click this radio button to filter on variance relating to duration. |
Start date variance | Click this radio button to filter on variance relating to start dates. |
Finish date variance | Click this radio button to filter on variance relating to finish dates. |
Total cost variance | Click this radio button to filter on variance relating to total cost. |
Total income variance | Click this radio button to filter on variance relating to total income. |
Total float variance |
Click this radio button to filter on variance relating to total float. You may find it useful to filter on total float variance if you are using logical paths to monitor the erosion of total float: once you have identified those tasks that are most likely to affect the project finish date if they are delayed, you can monitor the total float variance of these tasks to ascertain whether it is increasing or decreasing as a project progresses.

Equality | Specify whether you want to filter for amounts that are greater than, less than, or equal to the specified amount. |
Amount | Enter the variance amount in which you are interested. |
Show items with variances that do not match the above | Select this check box to filter for items with a variance that does not match the parameters you have entered, or clear the check box to filter for items with a variance that does match the parameters. |
When compared to baseline | Select the baseline against which to compare the live data. |
Ask me what variance values to use each time the filter is applied | Select this check box if you want to be able to specify the variance parameters each time you apply the filter, or clear the check box to use the parameters specified in this wizard each time. |
How do I...

- Specify whether you want to filter on the variance of task or allocation values in the Use task or allocation variance field.
- Select the type of value on which you want to filter in the Variance type group. Note that you can only filter on total cost and total income variance if you are filtering on task variance.
- Specify the variance parameters in the Equality and Amount fields, then select the baseline against which to compare the live data in the When compared to baseline field.
- If you want to be able to specify the variance parameters each time you apply the filter, select the Ask me what variance values to use... check box.
- Click Next to access the following page.
