Enter Progress dialog - Allocation tab
You use the Allocation tab of the
Enter Progress dialog to mark progress on the selected allocation. If the selected task has multiple allocations, use the to move between the allocations and mark progress on each one individually.
When you mark progress on a task's allocation, the progress is not reflected on the task until you progress it from its allocations, using the Task tab.

To access the Enter Progress dialog, right-click a task or allocation and select Enter Progress.

Progress information for the selected allocation is displayed in the following columns on the grid:
Column | Description |
---|---|
Previous | This column displays progress that has already been entered against the allocation. |
Current | Enter current progress details in this column. |
Remaining | Enter the amount of progress that is still to be completed. |
Total | This column displays the total of the other columns. |
The grid displays a number of rows that you can use to view progress and mark progress against the selected allocation in a variety of ways. Only those rows that are relevant to the selected allocation are displayed at any one time. For example, a Cost or Income row appears for cost allocations, and Work, Quantity or Effort rows may appear for resource allocations, depending on the way in which they are modelled. The following rows may be displayed:
Row | Description |
---|---|
Percent |
Use this row to mark progress on an allocation as a percentage of its duration.
|
Duration | Use this row to mark progress on an allocation as a period of the duration. For example, you could record that 3 days of a 12 day allocation is complete. |
User |
Use this row to mark progress on an allocation as a user value which is independent of the task duration and any resource or cost allocations.
By marking progress independently of the task duration and any resource or cost allocations, you can keep a record of your progress on a task without it affecting the actual progress. For example, if a task is 50% complete, but for internal reasons you want to mark it as 20% complete officially, you could enter 50% as a user value for your own records, but mark actual progress on the task as 20%.
This row only appears if you have selected the Show 'User Percent Complete' check box on the Progress tab of the Options dialog. This method of recording progress has been superceded by the overall percentage complete functionality. |
Effort | Use this row to mark progress on a permanent resource allocation in terms of the effort that has been completed. For example, you could record that 20 hours out of a total of 80 hours effort is complete. |
Work | Use this row to mark progress on a permanent resource allocation in terms of the work that has been completed. For example, you could record that 15 units of work out of a total of 60 work units is complete. |
Quantity | Use this row to mark progress on a consumable resource allocation in terms of the quantity that has been consumed or supplied. For example, you could record that 100 bricks out of a total of 1,000 bricks is complete. |
Cost | Use this row to mark progress on a cost allocation in terms of the cost that has been completed. For example, you could record that £200 out of a total of £1,000 cost is complete. |
Income | Use this row to mark progress on a cost allocation in terms of the income that has been achieved. For example, you could record that £600 out of a total of £1,500 income has been achieved. |
Actual start | Use this row to mark progress on an allocation as a duration from the date on which work started - entered in this row - until the date on which work finished. |
Actual finish | Use this row to mark progress on an allocation as a duration from the date on which work started until the date on which work finished - entered in this row. |
The dialog displays the following additional control:
Field/Button | Description |
---|---|
Progress period |
Select the progress period under which to mark progress using the fields in the grid. This defaults to the current progress entry period.
You cannot mark progress using a locked progress period, and if progress has previously been entered using a progress period that has been locked subsequently, you cannot edit the values in the Previous column. |
