Locking progress periods to prevent their use
If you want to prevent users from marking progress against tasks and allocations using certain progress periods, you can 'lock' such progress periods to prevent their use. For example, you may want to lock historic progress periods, or future progress periods that have been entered into a project but that should not yet be used.
When a progress period is locked. all of the historic progress data relating to the progress period is retained - and visible in the project. However, progress cannot be marked using locked progress periods, you cannot edit progress information that has been entered using a progress period that has been locked subsequently, and you cannot select a locked progress period as your progress entry period. You can lock and unlock progress periods whenever you like.
Note that you cannot lock the progress period that you currently have selected as your progress entry period. If you lock a progress period that another user has selected as their progress entry period, the user is prompted to select a different progress entry period the next time they open the project.
If your progress periods are organised into a hierarchy of folders in Library Explorer and you lock a progress period folder, you cannot use any of the progress periods within the folder until it is unlocked, regardless of whether the individual progress periods themselves are locked.
To lock a progress period and prevent its use, either:
- Right-click the progress period in the project view and select Locked.
- Select the Locked check box on the Progress Period Properties dialog.
- Within the Library Explorer progress period library, select the check box in the Locked column.
To unlock a locked progress period and make it available for use when marking progress:
- Right-click the progress period in the project view and select Locked.
- Clear the Locked check box on the Progress Period Properties dialog.
- Within the Library Explorer progress period library, clear the check box in the Locked column.
