Consumable Resource Properties dialog - Assignment tab
You use the Assignment tab of the
Consumable Resource Properties dialog to
You can also specify whether allocations of the resource should use the resource or task calendar by default, whether the resource is consumed by or supplied to tasks by default and whether the costs and income relating to this resource are excluded from any task cost calculations, including any roll-up costs on parent tasks. This may be useful if the cost or income is accounted for elsewhere in the project.
You also use this tab to specify whether the quantity values of allocations of this resource should be constant throughout the duration of the allocation or whether they should vary, being calculated using a resource curve. If you want to assign a resource curve to allocations of this resource by default, you select the resource curve on this tab.

To access the Consumable Resource Properties dialog, right-click a consumable resource in Library Explorer or the project view and select Properties.

Field | Description |
---|---|
Modelling type |
Select the default modelling type for allocations of the consumable resource.
|
Quantity | Enter the default quantity to allocate. This field is disabled if Quantity is the Calculated parameter |
Task conversion factor |
When using the Quantity From Task modelling method, enter the quantity of the resource that is consumed or supplied per unit of work on a task by default, and select 'Multiply' in the field to the right. For example, in a project to refurbish a hotel, it may take 4 litres of paint to paint each room, so the task conversion factor would be 4.
If you are using this resource to schedule logistics, enter the amount of the task work material that can be carried in the logistics resource and select 'Divide' or 'Divide and Round' in the field to the right. For example, if a Concrete Mixer Lorry resource has a capacity of 10m3 of concrete, enter '10.00' in this field.

Scheduling logistics using Quantity From Task modelled resources |
Rate type | Specify whether the Consumption rate is calculated as time units per unit (for example hours per carpet tile) or units per time unit (for example carpet tiles per hour). |
Consumption rate | Enter the default amount of time (for example 1 hour per circuit board) or the amount of resource (for example 1 circuit board per hour). This field is disabled if Rate is the Calculated parameter. |
Duration | Specify the default duration over which allocations of the resource are consumed. This field is disabled if Duration is the Calculated parameter. |
Delay | Specify any delay to apply by default to allocations of the resource. For example, you may not want paint to be consumed until 2 days after the start of tasks. |
Calculated parameter | Specify whether you want the duration, quantity or rate of allocations to be calculated by default. The field that relates to the option you select in this field is disabled on the dialog. |
Balancing | Specify whether you want Asta Powerproject to adjust the quantity or rate by default when you resize allocations by dragging in the bar chart. Select None to fix the allocations and prevent them from changing. |
Use task calendar |
Select this check box to specify that allocations of the resource should use the calendars of the tasks to which they are assigned, or clear the check box to apply the resource's calendar to the allocations.
|
Consumed |
Select this check box to specify that allocations of the resource are consumed by tasks, or clear the check box to specify that they are supplied to tasks.
Consumable resources are normally consumed by the task to which they are assigned, but they can be supplied. For example, a consumable resource of Bricks would be consumed, or used, by a Bricklaying task. A consumable resource of Cables would be supplied to a Cable Delivery task. |
Allocate proportionally | Select this check box to specify that allocations of the resource should be calculated to be the same duration as the tasks to which they are assigned, or clear the check box to determine the allocations' duration using resource modelling information. |
Lead resource |
As an alternative to colouring tasks according to the codes that are assigned to them, you can configure Asta Powerproject to colour them with the appearance of the lead resource that is assigned to them.
Select this check box to specify that the resource should be considered the lead resource when it is assigned to tasks. If you select this check box, the Lead resource check box will be selected by default on the Details tab of the allocation's properties dialog and tasks to which this resource is assigned will be displayed with the same appearance as this resource, if you choose to colour tasks according to the appearance of their lead resource.
|
Accounted for elsewhere | Select this check box to exclude the allocations' completed costs from any task cost calculations, including roll-up costs on parent tasks, or clear the check box to include the costs in such calculations. |
Linear | Click this radio button to specify that allocations of the resource should be flat - linear - ie that quantity values should remain constant throughout the duration of the resource's allocations. |
Resource curve |
Click this radio button to specify that the quantity values for allocations of the resource should not be constant throughout the duration of the allocations, but that they should be calculated using a resource curve.
Select the resource curve to apply to allocations of the resource in the field to the right of the radio button; click |
Zero duration appearance |
For each resource, you can specify a milestone appearance to apply by default to zero duration allocations - ie milestones. You may want to apply a different milestone appearance to each resource to help differentiate between the zero duration allocations of different resources. Select the shape to apply to zero duration allocations of the resource by default.
If you select a different milestone appearance in this field, a dialog appears asking if you want to update all existing allocations of this resource to use the new milestone appearance, or to leave existing allocations unchanged. |
How do I...

An allocation can work to its own calendar or to the calendar assigned to the task to which it is assigned.
Select the Use task calendar check box to make allocations of this resource work to the task's calendar, or clear the check box to make them work to the calendar assigned to the resource.

Select the Consumed check box to specify that allocations of the resource are consumed by the task to which they are allocated by default, or clear the check box to specify that they are supplied to the task by default.

Select the Allocate proportionally check box to specify that allocations of the resource should always have the same duration as the tasks to which they are assigned, or clear the check box to specify that the allocation duration should be calculated by the resource modelling calculation.

Select the Lead resource check box to specify that the resource should be considered the lead resource for the purposes of setting task appearance when it is assigned to tasks, or clear the check box to specify that this resource should not be considered the lead resource.

Select the Accounted for elsewhere check box to exclude the completed cost and income from any task cost calculations, or clear the check box to include the costs and income in calculations.

- Click the Linear radio button to specify that allocations of the resource should be flat - linear - ie that quantity values should remain constant throughout the duration of the resource's allocations.
- Click the Resource curve radio button and select a resource curve in the field to the right of the radio button to specify that the quantity values for allocations of the resource should be calculated using a resource curve.

Select the shape to apply to zero duration allocations of the resource by default in the Zero duration appearance field.
