Allocation Group Properties dialog - Permanents tab
You use the Permanents tab of the Allocation Group Properties dialog to maintain the default allocation settings of all permanent resources within the selected allocation group.
Any changes you make on this tab are applied to all the permanent resources within the selected allocation group. However, if you assign the permanent resources individually (not as part of an allocation group), their own default allocation settings still apply. Once you assign the selected allocation group to tasks, you can edit the allocation information for each specific allocation.

To access the Allocation Group Properties dialog, right-click an allocation group in Library Explorer or the project view and select Properties.

Field | Description |
---|---|
Modelling type |
Select the default modelling type for allocations of the permanent resources within the allocation group.
|
Allocation | Enter the default number of the resources to allocate. This field is disabled if Allocation is the Calculated parameter. |
Effort | Enter the default amount of effort that allocations of the resources will complete. This field is disabled if Effort is the Calculated parameter. |
Duration | Specify the default duration over which allocations of the resources will spread. This field is disabled if Duration is the Calculated parameter. |
Delay | Specify any delay to apply by default to allocations of the resources. For example, you may not want excavators to start work until 2 days after the start of tasks. |
Calculated | Specify whether you want Asta Powerproject to calculate the allocation, duration, effort, work or work rate of allocations by default. The field that relates to the option you select in this field is disabled on the dialog. |
Balancing | Specify whether you want Asta Powerproject to adjust the allocation, effort, work or work rate by default when you resize allocations by dragging in the bar chart. Select None to fix the allocations and prevent them from changing. |
Use task calendar |
Select this check box to specify that allocations of the resources should use the calendars of the tasks to which they are assigned, or clear the check box to apply the resources' calendars to the allocations.
|
May be shorter than task |
By default, a task cannot be longer than its resource allocations, so you cannot allocate resources to a portion of a task and leave the rest of the task unallocated. You can change this default behaviour if you want.
Select this check box to specify that allocations of the resources can be shorter than the tasks to which they are assigned, enabling you to leave portions of tasks unallocated, or clear the check box to specify that the allocations must be the same length as the corresponding tasks.
|
Allocate proportionally | Select this check box to specify that allocations of the resources should be calculated to be the same duration as the tasks to which they are assigned, or clear the check box to determine the allocations' duration using resource modelling information. |
Contributes to activity effort |
Resource allocations that use the Effort on Allocation modelling method can contribute to the effort activity budget of tasks that also have Effort Activity Budget modelled allocations. You may want to do this to reduce the effort activity budget of a task by the amount of an Effort on Allocation modelled allocation, thus affecting the effort activity budgets of the Effort Activity Budget modelled allocations.
Select this check box to specify that allocations of the resources should contribute to the effort activity budget, or clear the check box to specify that the allocations should work independently from the effort activity budget on the corresponding tasks. This check box only has an effect on Effort On Allocation modelled resources.
Combining Effort on Allocation and Effort Activity Budget allocations |
Share effort |
Resource allocations that use the Effort on Allocation modelling method for which Duration is the calculated parameter can share effort with other similar resources at the point at which they are assigned to the task.
Select this check box to specify that allocations of the resources should share effort with allocations of other similar resources, or clear the check box to indicate that allocations should work independently from any other allocations on the corresponding tasks. This check box only has an effect on Effort On Allocation modelled resources for which Duration is the Calculated parameter.
Sharing effort between Effort on Allocation modelled resources |
Work | Enter the default amount of work that allocations of the resources will complete, for example 200 bricks laid. This field is disabled unless you are using the Work On Allocation modelling method and work is not selected as either the Calculated parameter or Balancing parameter. |
Work from task factor | Enter the default factor by which the task work should be multiplied when using the Work From Task modelling method. For example, if 1 unit of task work requires an excavator to move 5 tonnes of earth, the factor would be 5. |
Rate type | Specify whether the Work rate is calculated as time per unit (for example hours per tonne of earth) or units per time unit (for example tonnes of earth per hour). |
Work rate | Enter the default amount of time (for example 1 hour per tonne of earth) or the amount of resource (for example 1 tonne of earth per hour). This field is disabled if Work rate is the Calculated parameter. |
Accounted for elsewhere | Select this check box to exclude the allocations' completed costs from any task cost calculations, including roll-up costs on parent tasks, or clear the check box to include the costs in such calculations. |
