Editing spreadsheet data
You can edit the data displayed in the spreadsheet. For example, after drawing a task on the bar chart, you can adjust its start date by editing the start date displayed in the spreadsheet. In addition to editing existing tasks, you can create new tasks by typing appropriate data into the following columns on blank bars:
- Bar name.
- Task name.
- Start date.
- Finish date.
- Duration.
When you create a new task in this way, the task derives its unspecified settings from the bar chart defaults. For example, if you enter a start date, the task will take the default duration, whereas if you enter a duration the task will take its start date from the earliest date shown in the current view.
You cannot create new allocations by typing data into the spreadsheet.
You can edit some cells directly by typing into them, whereas other cells allow you to select one of a limited number of options. When you click a cell:
- If the cell is directly editable, the text insertion bar appears where you clicked. Use the left and right arrow keys to move between the characters as you make your edits.
- If the cell is not directly editable, all the data in the cell is selected and a type of drop-down control may be enabled for you to select an alternative to the current setting.
To confirm your edit to the current cell, click a blank area of the bar chart or press ENTER. When you press ENTER, the cell below becomes selected for you to edit its contents.
If you enter invalid data into a cell, for example if you enter a date into a duration cell, an error message is displayed when you try to confirm your edits. You cannot deselect the cell until you have corrected your edit or abandoned it by pressing ESC.
You cannot edit cells that contain comma-separated lists of task data, for example WBN codes.
