Asta Powerproject security
You can control access to a project using a combination of security groups, users, access rights and passwords.
You set up security groups and users in Library Explorer. Each project has a top-level security group and a top-level user which are both called Admin by default. Each security group name and user name within a project must be unique. Each user must be a member of a security group, which defines the user's access rights to the project.
When creating a security group you specify the access rights of the users that are members of the security group. Access rights allow you to restrict the user to only part of a project and to restrict the edits they can carry out within that part.
Each user can password-protect their access to a project, so that only someone who knows both the username and that username's password can open the project. If a user does not set a password, anyone who knows that user's username will be able to log onto the project.
Asta Powerproject standalone and Asta Powerproject SaaS security
If you are using Asta Powerproject standalone or Asta Powerproject SaaS, by default you are the top-level user of any project that you open or create. If anyone else runs your copy of Asta Powerproject, they will have complete access to your projects. You can protect your projects by setting a password within each project. This is useful if you share the computer you work on with others. After setting a project password, whenever you open a project that is password-protected, you are required to enter the password before the project is opened.
As a project grows in size you may wish to introduce other users to the project (by creating them in Library Explorer), so that they can plan their work with Asta Powerproject as well so that all work is coordinated into a single project or programme.
Asta Enterprise security
If you are using Asta Enterprise, your System Administrator may have set up usernames on the server and within any company-wide projects. If usernames have been set up on the server, when you run Asta Powerproject you have to enter your username and password to log on to the server. If your username and password within a project differ from your username and password on the server, you also have to enter your project username and password when opening that project. If the System Administrator has used the same username and password for both the server and project, you only have to enter your username and password once.
Your System Administrator may have enabled the automatic log on feature, using Server Admin. If automatic log on has been enabled, you can log on to projects without having to enter a username and password. Refer to Server Admin Help for full details of enabling automatic log on.
If your System Administrator has not set up usernames on the server, you can log straight into the server and projects as the top-level user, which by default is Admin. All the other Asta Powerproject users are able to open and edit your projects unless you password-protect them.
Once you have created or opened a project, you can introduce further users to it (by creating them in Library Explorer). For example, if your Departmental Manager introduced you to the project, you could then introduce your team members to the project, restricting their access rights to only the information that they need.
