Associating different baselines with individual projects
If you have built up a portfolio of projects within one file by identifying that individual charts and summary groups are projects themselves, you can associate a different baseline with each individual project. Doing this enables you to merge new and updated information into each project's baseline individually and to display baseline information in the spreadsheet and bar chart that relates specifically to the project that is currently in view. Once a baseline has been associated with a project, it is known as a 'project baseline'.
To associate a baseline with an individual project:
- Create a new baseline that contains only information relating to the chart or summary group that represents a project. Do this by clicking the chart or summary group in the project view to view the tasks within the individual project and choosing to create a baseline comprising all tasks in the current view. When creating project baselines, it does not make sense to include other information - ie information from other projects - in the baseline.
- Right-click the chart or summary group icon in the project view that represents a project and select Properties. The Chart/Project Properties dialog appears.
- Click the Project tab.
- Select the baseline that contains information relating to the project in the Project Baseline field.
Once you have associated baselines with individual projects, you can display information from the project baselines in the bar chart by selecting the Project Baseline check boxes on the Baselines tab of the Format Bar Chart dialog and you can configure spreadsheet fields to display information from the project baselines by selecting Project Baseline in the Data field on the Column Definitions tab of the Table Definition Properties dialog. You can also display a number of project baseline-related fields in the spreadsheet.
