Creating picture annotations

You can create picture annotations by importing graphics such as your company logo, symbols and illustrations. You can import graphics in a number of different formats including PNG, BMP, EMF, WMF, JPG and GIF.

For best results with PNG files that include transparencies, it is recommended that you display them without a background colour and with no border. Other annotations will look at their best with a border and/or a background colour applied.

To create a picture annotation:

  1. On the Format tab, in the Annotations group, click Picture, then move the pointer over the bar chart. The cursor changes shape to indicate the way in which the annotation will be attached.
  2. When the cursor is the shape you want, hold down the left mouse button and drag. A dotted outline follows the pointer's movements:

The dotted outline defines the size of the annotation
  3. When the outline is the size that you want, release the mouse button (you can easily change the size of the picture later so you do not have to get it exactly right). The Picture tab of the Picture Annotation Properties dialog appears.
  4. Enter the path and file name of the graphic in the Picture file field, or click Browse to locate the graphic using the Open file selector. The selected graphic is displayed in the area on the dialog.
  5. Select the Embed Picture check box to save the picture within the project, or clear the check box to reference the picture at its current location.
  6. Click OK to close the dialog and import the graphic.

The picture is displayed selected on the bar chart. To deselect the annotation, click on the bar chart away from it.

If you choose not to embed a picture into the project, if you later rename or move the graphic to another location, Asta Powerproject will be unable to locate the graphic and the bounding box that contained the graphic will be empty. If this happens, double-click the empty bounding box to display the Picture Annotation Properties dialog and enter the new path and filename of the original graphic or select a different graphic.
