Viewing event logs

You use the Event Logs page to view the last 100 entries of an Enterprise server's event log. Every Enterprise server has its own event log, which gives details of events that have occurred on the server.

To access the Event Logs page, either:

  • In the sidebar, click the Enterprise server whose event log you want to view, then click Event Logs.
  • On the Servers page, click Event Logs underneath the Enterprise server whose event log you want to view.

An Enterprise server must be running for you to view its event logs. If you try to view an Enterprise server's event logs when it is not running, you are notified that the server is not running.

Initially, this page displays only events that relate to Elecosoft software. You can toggle between viewing details of all events that have occurred on the Enterprise server, or only events that relate to Elecosoft software:

  • To view all events that have occurred on the Enterprise server, click Show All Events.
  • To view only events that relate to Elecosoft software, click Only Elecosoft Events.

Downloading event logs

If you have a problem using Server Admin, Elecosoft's Technical Support department may ask to see a copy of your event log. To download a copy of the event log to your computer in .CSV format that you can email to the Technical Support department, click Download.

Event logs are downloaded to your Downloads folder, which you can view using Windows Explorer:

The Downloads folder in Windows Explorer

Each downloaded event log has a file name of 'eventlog'. If you download more than one event log in a day, the second and subsequent event logs have numbers appended to the file name to help you identify them ('eventlog (1)', 'eventlog (2)', etc), as illustrated above.

You can open the event logs in Microsoft Excel to view their contents. If you do this, you may need to expand the width and height of the cells in the Microsoft Excel workbook to view the event log entries fully.
