Setting the database connection timeout durations

You use the Set Database Periods dialog to set the length of time after which you want clients to time out and report a failure after an unsuccessful attempt to contact the database and to specify the number of minutes after which you want the message that appears to report a loss of connection to the database to be repeated.

To access the Set Database Periods dialog, select the Set Database Periods command from the Server menu.

To set the database connection timeout durations:

  1. Enter the number of seconds after which you want a client to time out and report a failure after an unsuccessful attempt to contact the database during an operation such as opening or saving a project in the Connection timeout field. If you set the timeout duration to zero, operations such as this never time out. Note that you must restart the Enterprise server for changes to this field to take effect.
  2. Enter the number of seconds after which you want a client to time out and report a failure after an unsuccessful attempt to contact the database during an operation such as creating, editing or deleting an object within a project in the Command timeout field. If you set the timeout duration to zero, operations such as this never time out.

If you set either of the above timeout durations to zero, operations never time out.
  3. Enter the number of minutes after which you want the message that appears to report a loss of connection to the database to be repeated in the Connection loss message repeat field. If you set the duration to zero, the message is displayed once only.
  4. Click OK to confirm your changes and close the Set Database Periods dialog.
