Applying an iteration to the live schedule
Once you have carried out risk analysis, if you are happy with the results of a particular iteration you can apply it to the live schedule. If you do this, the live data is updated with information from the selected iteration - in effect, the selected iteration now becomes the live project.
If you baselined a project before performing risk analysis, you can then compare the original project (the baseline) with the project as it has changed during risk analysis.
Note that applying an iteration to the live schedule divorces the risk analysis results from the live data: the results displayed in the Risk Analysis dialog are based on the schedule as it was prior to the application of the iteration, not as it is now. Note also that if you were to carry out a further risk analysis operation on the live data having applied an iteration, the starting point for the second risk analysis operation would be the iteration that you applied from the results of the first risk analysis operation, rather than the original project.
To apply an iteration to the live schedule:
- Select the iteration that you want to apply to the live schedule in the grid on the Results tab of the Risk Analysis dialog.
- Click the Create from iteration control and select Schedule.
The live data is updated with information from the selected iteration.
If you apply an iteration to the live schedule and decide subsequently that you wish to revert to the original project, you can do this by undoing the application of the risk analysis iteration, or by reverting to the baseline of the original project.
In addition to applying iterations to the live schedule, you can create baselines from iterations. You may like to do this before applying iterations to the live schedule, as it gives you the opportunity to experiment with What If scenarios by opening the resulting baseline as a project without affecting the live data.
