Passwords dialog - Password tab
You use the Password tab of the Passwords dialog to password-protect access to the active project so that nobody can log in to the project as you unless they know both your username and password. You can also password-protect the access of any subordinate users that you have introduced to the project. You can also use this tab to remove password-protection from a project.
Before you change the password of a subordinate user, make sure that they are logged out of the project, and save your changes before they log back into the project.

To access the Passwords dialog, click the File tab, click Properties, then click Passwords. To change a specific user's password, right-click the user in Library Explorer and select Change Password, or click Change Password on the User Properties dialog.

How do I...

- Select the user whose password you want to change in the Change password for field, which initially displays the username with which you are logged in to the project.
- Delete the asterisks in the Current password for... field and type the current password of the top-level user; if this user does not have a current password, just delete the asterisks in the field.
- Delete the asterisks in the New password for user field and type the new password for the selected user.
- Delete the asterisks in the Confirm new password for user field and type the new password again.
If you have made a mistake when entering the new password, you cannot OK your changes. When you or the subordinate user next opens the project, you must enter the new password to access the project.

- Select the user whose password you want to remove in the Change password for field.
- Delete the asterisks in the Current password for... field and type the current password of the top-level user.
- Delete the asterisks in the New password for user and Confirm new password for user fields.
When you or the subordinate user next opens the project, you can access it without entering a password.
Only the top-level user can remove their own password from a project. This means that if a subordinate user saves a project to another file, the project is still password-protected and cannot be opened without a valid password.
