Link Settings dialog - Settings tab
You use the Settings tab of the Link Settings dialog to specify a number of options relating to the creation and editing of links.

- Click the File tab, then click Options. The Options dialog appears.
- On the Edit tab, click Link Settings.
You can also access the Logic Chasing tab of the Link Settings dialog by right-clicking the heading of a column in one of the grids on the Links tab of the Bar and Task Properties dialog or the properties view and selecting Logic Chasing Settings.

Field | Description |
---|---|
Link from start to finish |
Click this radio button to specify that new links that start in the middle of a task should be drawn relative to the start of the task.
|
Link to closest end |
Click this radio button to specify that new links that start in the middle of a task should be drawn relative to the start or finish of the task, depending on the location of the link cursor.
|
Display Link From/To |
Click this radio button to specify that the Link From/To dialog should be displayed when you draw a link into empty space in the bar chart, allowing you to link tasks textually. This method of linking tasks is particularly useful if the tasks you want to link are not close to each other in the bar chart, or if they are in different charts.
|
Do nothing | Click this radio button to specify that nothing should happen when you draw a link into empty space in the bar chart. |
Check for loops when entering links |
Select this check box to check for link loops automatically when drawing links in the bar chart, or clear the check box to disable automatic link loop warnings. Link loops indicate breaks in the logic of a project and should be avoided.
If you clear the check box, Asta Powerproject will still identify any link loops within the project when you reschedule it.

How do I...

Click the Link from start to finish radio button to specify that the lead time of new links that start in the middle of a task is calculated relative to the start of the task, and the lead time of new links that end in the middle of a task is calculated relative to the end of the task.
Alternatively, click the Link to closest end radio button to specify that the lead time of new links that start or end in the middle of a task is calculated relative to the nearest end of the task.

Click the Display Link From/To radio button if you want
If you choose to display the Link From/To dialog, you can use this dialog to create links between tasks textually - ie without drawing them on the bar chart. This method of linking tasks is particularly useful if the tasks you want to link are not close to each other in the bar chart, or if they are in different charts.

Select the Check for loops when entering links check box if you want Asta Powerproject to check for link loops - ie logical errors in a plan whereby a link or series of links results in a later task imposing a logical constraint on an earlier activity - automatically as you work with the project. If you select the check box, the Link Loop Found dialog appears when you create a link loop, enabling you to resolve the problem.
