Filter Wizard - Constraints and buffers page
You use the Filter Wizard to create and edit the criteria of filters, which items must meet in order to be included in a filter. This page of the Filter Wizard appears if you have chosen to filter on the constraint flags that are applied to tasks. You use this page to select the types of constraint flag that are included in the filtered view.
As well as filtering for specific types of constraint flag, you can also filter for tasks that have no constraint flag assigned to them. You can also filter for project and feeder buffer tasks, for interruptible and potentially interruptible tasks, for tasks that have been constrained to start on a new day following a reschedule and for tasks that have been constrained to complete within a single time period, shift or work pattern.

To access the Filter Wizard, click Insert or Edit within the Filter Properties dialog.

Field | Description |
---|---|
Start on | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Start On constraint flag has been applied. |
Start on or before | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Start On Or Before constraint flag has been applied. |
Start on or after | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Start On Or After constraint flag has been applied. |
Finish on | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Finish On constraint flag has been applied. |
Finish on or before | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Finish On Or Before constraint flag has been applied. |
Finish on or after | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Finish On Or After constraint flag has been applied. |
Work between | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Work Between constraint flag has been applied. |
Deadline | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Deadline constraint flag has been applied. |
Any constraint flag | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which any type of constraint flag has been applied. |
No constraint flags | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which no constraint flag has been applied. |
Look for project buffer tasks |
Select this check box to filter for project buffer tasks.
|
Look for feeder buffer tasks |
Select this check box to filter for feeder buffer tasks.
|
Look for interruptible tasks |
Select this check box to filter for interruptible tasks, which can be used to indicate that tasks are able to start earlier and in which work can be interrupted at some point before the finish of the task.
|
Look for potentially interruptible tasks |
Select this check box to filter for tasks that are suitable for marking as interruptible. Potentially interruptible tasks are those tasks that have at least two incoming links, one of which constrains the start of the task and one of which constrains the finish of the task.
|
Look for tasks marked 'start on new day' |
Select this check box to filter for tasks that have been constrained to start on a new day following a reschedule.
|
Look for tasks with holding pin | Select this check box to filter for tasks to which a Holding Pin constraint has been applied. |
Look for must complete within time period |
Select this check box to filter for tasks that have been constrained to complete within a single time period. A time period is a single span of working time within a shift. For example, a morning might comprise a time period from 09:00 to 12:30.
Constraining tasks to complete within a single time period, shift or work pattern |
Look for must complete within shift |
Select this check box to filter for tasks that have been constrained to complete within a single shift. A shift is a group of time periods. For example, a shift may comprise a working time period in the morning and a working time period in the afternoon, with a non-working time period at lunchtime between the two working time periods.
Constraining tasks to complete within a single time period, shift or work pattern |
Look for must complete within work pattern |
Select this check box to filter for tasks that have been constrained to complete within a single work pattern. A work pattern is a repeating pattern of shifts, usually comprising seven shifts, with one shift per day of the week.

Ask me which constraint flags to filter for each time the filter is applied | Select this check box if you want to be able to specify the code library entry parameters each time you apply the filter, or clear the check box to use the parameters specified in this wizard each time. |
How do I...

- Select the type(s) of constraint flag that you want to include in the filtered view. You can select as many types of flag as you like.
- If you want to filter for tasks that have no constraint flag, select the No constraint flags check box.
- If you want to filter for tasks with any type of constraint flag, select the Any constraint flag check box.
- If you want to filter for buffer tasks, which can be used within projects to protect important dates and reduce excess float, select the Look for project buffer tasks or Look for feeder buffer tasks check boxes.
- If you want to filter for interruptible tasks, which can be used to indicate that tasks are able to start earlier and in which work can be interrupted at some point before the finish of the task, select the Look for interruptible tasks check box.
- If you want to filter for tasks that are suitable for marking as interruptible, select the Look for potentially interruptible tasks check box. Potentially interruptible tasks are those tasks that have at least two incoming links, one of which constrains the start of the task and one of which constrains the finish of the task.
- If you want to filter for tasks that have been constrained to start on a new day following a reschedule, select the Look for tasks marked 'start on new day' check box.
- If you want to filter for tasks to which a Holding Pin constraint has been applied, select the Look for tasks with holding pin check box.
- If you want to filter for tasks that have been constrained to complete within a single time period, shift or work pattern, select the appropriate Look for must complete within... check box.
- If you want to be able to specify the constraint flag type(s) to include each time you apply the filter, select the Ask me which constraint flags to filter for... check box.
