Baseline Wizard
You use the Baseline Wizard to create new baselines and to merge new and changed information into an existing baseline. A baseline is a record of all or any part of a project at a particular point in time. Baselines contain a copy of everything in the project, for example bars, tasks, links, resource allocations, libraries, histograms and annotations. You can create as many baselines as you want for a project.

To access the Baseline Wizard, click New from within the Baseline/What If Manager dialog. Alternatively, click Baseline Merge on the Project tab of the Chart/Project Properties dialog in order to access the wizard and merge new and changed data into a project baseline.
If you select tasks and invoke the Baseline Wizard, you are given the option of baselining only the selected tasks, or the entire view. If no tasks are selected, the current view will be baselined. If the current view is the chart that represents the programme, the entire project will be baselined.
Once you have baselined all or part of a project, you might want to add details that you have added to the project subsequently to the baseline. You can use the Baseline Wizard to do this by merging the information into an existing baseline. When merging data into an existing baseline, you can choose to:
- Update the baseline with tasks and allocations that have been added to the project since the baseline was last updated.
- Update the baseline with tasks and allocations that have been added to the project since the baseline was last updated and to update tasks and allocations that already exist in the baseline with information that has changed since the baseline was last updated.
- Update the baseline with all changes that have been made since it was last updated, including deleting tasks and allocations from the baseline where they have been deleted from the project.
You can use the wizard to make a backup of a baseline before merging new and changed data into it.
