Picture Annotation Properties dialog - General tab
You use the General tab of the Picture Annotation Properties dialog to configure the way in which the selected picture annotation is displayed on the bar chart.

To access the Picture Annotation Properties dialog, right-click a picture annotation and select Properties.

Field | Description |
---|---|
Background colour |
Select a background colour to display behind the annotation, or select None to display the annotation without a background colour. For best results with PNG files that include transparencies, it is recommended that you display them without a background colour and with no border. Other annotations will look at their best with a border and/or a background colour applied. |
Show border |
Select this check box to display a border around the annotation, or clear the check box to display the annotation without a border. For best results with PNG files that include transparencies, it is recommended that you display them without a background colour and with no border. Other annotations will look at their best with a border and/or a background colour applied. |
Drawing layer | Click the appropriate radio button to specify the drawing layer on the bar chart in which the annotation is displayed. You can display annotations in the foreground (on top of any bar chart objects), in the background (behind any bar chart objects but in front of any gridlines), or at the very back (behind all objects and gridlines). |
Category |
Select the category in which to place the annotation.
You can define any number of annotation categories in Library Explorer and choose which categories are displayed at any one time using the General tab of the Format Bar Chart dialog. For example, you might want to place all your cost annotations in a Costs category and only display that category when discussing the project with your company accountant. Annotations are placed in the default category unless you specify otherwise. You specify which category to use as the default using the Annotations tab of the Bar Chart Defaults Properties dialog. |
Filter |
Select a filter to apply to the annotation. You can edit the selected filter by clicking Properties. Click New if you want to create a new filter.
If you apply a filter to an annotation, the annotation only appears when the task or allocation to which it is attached meets the filter criteria. For example, you could display a 'Warning' picture annotation if a task slips beyond its target finish date (by filtering for tasks finishing after a particular date) or exceeds a certain cost (by filtering for tasks exceeding a specific cost). |
Make auto annotation |
If you have applied a filter to the annotation, select this check box to make the annotation appear automatically on all bars, tasks and allocations that meet the selected filter criteria. For example, you could annotate all tasks that slip beyond a particular date or exceed a certain cost with a 'Warning' picture.

New | Click this button to create a new filter, which will be applied to the annotation automatically. |

Select the Show border check box to display a border around the annotation, or clear the check box to display the annotation without a border.

Click the Foreground, Background or Back radio button to specify the drawing layer in which the annotation is displayed.
The drawing layer determines whether the annotation is displayed in front of or behind the objects and gridlines in the bar chart.

Select the filter to apply in the Filter field.

- Select the filter to apply in the Filter field.
