Foreground and background annotations
An annotation can either be in the foreground or in the background. When an annotation is in the foreground, it will overlap any other objects on the same area of the bar chart. When an annotation is in the background, it will be overlapped by any other objects on the same area of the bar chart.
Placing an annotation in the background so that it is overlapped by other objects is a good way of applying a watermark to a project, which may be especially useful if you are planning to print the project. For example, you could create a watermark to show that this is a draft copy of a project by creating a 'Draft' text annotation and placing this annotation in the background so that the bar chart is printed in front of it, as illustrated below:

To specify whether an annotation is placed in the foreground or background:
- Select the annotation then click
on the Quick Access toolbar. The Annotation Properties dialog appears.
- Click the General tab.
- From the Drawing Layergroup, specify the way in which you want the annotation to appear in relation to objects and gridlines in the bar chart. Display the annotation in the background if you want it to act as a watermark - perhaps showing that this is a draft copy of a project.
- Close the Annotation Properties dialog when you have finished.
