Overall percent weighting

Description

A factor by which the overall percentage complete progress on a task is rolled up onto its parent task. The overall percentage complete progress for each task is multiplied by the task's weighting when the progress is rolled up to the parent task.

The overall percent weighting is initially set to be the task's original duration in hours. For example, a task with an original duration of 7h will have a weighting of 7; a task with an original duration of 75h will have a weighting of 75; and so on. Milestones are the exception: they are assigned a weighting of 1. This calculated value appears in the Calculated weight field, in the 'Progress' fields on the Task tab of the Bar and Task Properties dialog.

If you want to override the weighting with your own value, enter it in this field - reduce the weighting to indicate that the task should contribute less towards the overall percent complete of its parent task, or increase it to indicate that the task should contribute more. This value then appears in the Calculated weight field, and does not change, even if the duration of the task changes.

If you have manually edited the weighting of a task and subsequently want to revert to its weighting being calculated automatically, enter '1.00' in this field. The weighting will then be calculated automatically once more, according to its original duration in hours, and this value will appear in the Calculated weight field. If you enter '1.00' in this field, the weighting is set instantly to be the task's original duration - so the field will never display '1.00', except for milestones.

Slip

Description

For tasks, slip is the difference between the report date of a specified progress period and the start or resume date of a task. A positive value indicates that work is ahead of schedule; a negative value indicates that work is behind schedule. For summary and expanded tasks, slip is calculated as being the difference between the report date and the task's effective progress date. The effective progress date for a summary or expanded task is calculated from the task's percentage complete and duration. The percentage complete for a summary or expanded task is calculated as the total actual duration of the child tasks, divided by the total duration of the child tasks.

If a summary or expanded task contains a gap between the last completed work and the work that remains to be completed and if the report date is located at some point within this gap, the Slip field for summary and expanded tasks shows zero.
