Entering bar and task names in the spreadsheet

By default, the spreadsheet includes a Name column. This column displays either bar names or task names, depending on whether or not a bar is displayed in one-task-per-line mode.

To enter or edit bar or task names in the spreadsheet:

  1. Move the mouse pointer over the Name column, then click the row of the bar or task whose name you want to enter or edit. A text bar flashes in the cell, indicating where text will appear when you begin to type.
  2. Type the name of the bar or task. You can include spaces and punctuation in the name.
  3. When you have finished, click the bar chart to deselect the cell, or press Enter to finish editing and move to the bar or task name below.

When you first enter a bar name, Asta Powerproject may create a task on the bar automatically and copy the same name automatically to the task. You can specify whether you want Asta Powerproject to create tasks when you type in the spreadsheet using the Edit tab of the Options dialog. You can edit the task name to make it different to the bar name by displaying the bar in one-task-per-line mode. If the task and bar name remain the same, any edits you make to the bar name are copied automatically to the task name. You can specify whether you want the name of the bar applied automatically to new tasks that you create on the bar, or whether you want new tasks to be created without a name.
