Consumable resources

Consumable resources are typically the materials and components required to complete tasks. For example, a task to refurbish an office might require paint, carpet, partitions and power sockets.

Consumable resources are used up by tasks: once a task uses 10 tins of paint, those tins of paint are not available to be used on other tasks.

Once you have created a consumable resource you can assign it to tasks. You can combine consumable and permanent resource allocations into an allocation group, then assign the whole group to a task in one operation.

Consumable resources differ from materials - which can also be used to represent the materials and components required to complete tasks - in that you do not assign materials to tasks; you use materials to identify the type of task work that is carried out when modelling tasks in terms of task work without using resources.

You can edit the properties of a consumable resource by editing options on the Consumable Resource Properties dialog. To access help for each tab of the Consumable Resource Properties dialog, press F1 while viewing the tab.
