Grouping related tasks

You can group together related tasks under summary tasks. The tasks under a summary task are known as a summary group. You can expand or contract a summary task to show or hide the summary group. Summary tasks are particularly useful when you have a large number of tasks in a project and you want to concentrate on particular sections of the project. You can expand just the summary tasks that you want to work on and contract the other summary tasks so that their tasks do not distract you. In the shed-building example above, you could create summary tasks for Preparation and Construction. The tasks under a summary task are indented to indicate that they form a summary group.

If you prefer, you can move a group of related tasks into a separate subchart so that they are not displayed unless you choose to open that subchart by clicking on an expanded task. In the example above, Preparation and Construction could be turned into expanded tasks that lead to their own subcharts.
