How the Asta Enterprise system reports errors
The Asta Enterprise system handles errors and other events in a way that enables you to carry out your own diagnostics to review the events that occur and, where appropriate, to provide Elecosoft with sufficient information to investigate and resolve any errors that may occur.
When a significant event occurs, it is reported in the Windows® application log. The following information is displayed about each event in the Windows application log:
- Type: Elecosoft events are reported as either 'Information', 'Warning' or 'Error'.
- Date/Time: the date and time at which the event occurred.
- Source: this will be 'Elecosoft' for all events reported by the Asta Enterprise system.
- Category: the event category in which the event has been reported.
- Event: the identifying number of the event.
- User: the user with whom the event is associated.
- Computer: the computer with which the event is associated.
While events with a type of 'Information' or 'Warning' do not indicate problems that require immediate resolution, events with a type of 'Error' usually indicate a loss of functionality or data, and therefore require action. You can use an external application to browse the Windows application log and filter for events with a type of 'Error', alerting people as appropriate so that they can take action.
